My favorite scarezones have always been where Bayou of Blood is going. I think it has something to do with how narrow the walkway is there relative to the rest of the park. Especially when pumped with fog, it gives a closed in type feel that gets me every time.

I'm also out of state now. People forget that it's easy to stomach a degrading event if it only costs you $100 for the season, but HHN used to be an event that was worth the hundreds of dollars in travel fees and hotel stays. It really isn't anymore.

That"s it in a nut shell, and why I hate the FF passes so much, when it only costs about $5 a night to go in you are more willing to accept anything.

I thought it was a comedy zone cause I laughed non stop through the video. The shows at BGW are just as worse as that zone.

The problem with 2008/09 is that none of the scare zones were actually scary...I don't care how beautiful something is or the story..if it's not scary that is a problem...HHN has had a scare zone problem ever since it came back to the Studios (in my opinion)...Personally I don't think HHN is at a point where I wont go..the houses were fantastic last year and it seems this year the streets will be great...I think you're making a mistake not going, but it's your money

I never really understood this, I remember reading something like this on fb in 2012 as well, How exactly are scarezones supposed to be truly terrifying? aren't the houses where the guest goes to Get scared?
I never understood how a scarezone can be truly scary with hundreds of people walking and talking around you and music playing and lights everywhere,
I know people get scared in zones (mostly startled) and the actors can sneak up on you and scare you really bad. But I never understood how scarezones could be more terrifying with so many people around.

I guess my question is, Has there ever been a truly, truly frightening scarezone? like, a zone that was AS scary as an actual house?

I got scared in 7 a couple times thanks to the tag teaming. Honestly not really, scare zones are mostly there for eye candy and to add another attraction slot. They're just fun distractions that make the walk to the next house less boring. Not really meant to be absolutely horrifying

yeah this is what I was talking about, this is perfectly put. I think I rather have colorful/beautiful scarezones than scary scarezones
Esqueleto Muerte was my all time favorite zone. If that zone came back every couple of years I would be really happy, I know the actors were not trying to scare as much but everything from the props to the costumes were amazing. I loved that zone so much. (2010 for me had the best scarezones of all the years I've been to hhn)

I have a friend that wants to come with me but the cost really adds up. He wants to visit the wizarding worlds so he would have to buy a two park pass. $136, than that night go to halloween horror nights, add $56. That's $200 in one day, for 1 person. It doesn't hurt me that much because I have an annual pass so all I pay for is horror nights but if you don't, a one day trip to universal with horror nights can make a hole in your pocket. And I haven't even talked about hotel or food. (And I know it's also Disney)

True the zones will never be as terrifying as the houses. The question is could they be? Is it universal's side of creation. To make something great to look at rather then something scarier? We also have to remember Lora has been in charge of zones for the past few years. Could be nice to have a change around in roles. In-door elements(School-house,barn) in the zones I believe is the right way.

I always felt the scare zones are there to keep you in the right mindset that you are in a horror environment but also be a little bit of a break from the high intensity level of the houses. Last 4 years or so have felt more akin to photo ops/general theming. If they could find the line between the two it would be amazing. I have a feeling they may be able to do that this year with face off being photo oppy like 7 and then bayou has probably the best area for a scare zone.

I have definitely seen some people get genuinely scared in the zones (using zone loosely here) and those have all been quite entertaining. There was one walker that roamed from the la bamba bar to the barn that killed it last year and I have seen a lone chainsaw man scare 3 girls out of their mind to the point they looked like an episode from Scooby doo.

In 2012 I saw a warrior make someone fall into a bush out of fright. It was hilarious!!! Zones have their moments if your not used to the atmosphere. Stay clear of props someone could easily hide behind...that speaks for itself lol

I would agree with Cole on 7 and add to the mix Grown Evil and 20 Years of Fear (especially Crypt Keeper).

To me, scarezones have show how good the actors can be. We sat and watched the actors in 7 for at least a half hour one night and they were unflagging in their scaring. Watching them be completely and totally 'on' for so long without even the chance to step offstage is really rather amazing.

I would also add that the houses are conga lines so you still have a lot a people around you and they are mostly distraction scares as well, just in a more confined space. In a way, it is harder to get a scare out of a scarezone, so when you do get scared it is all the more meaningful.

does your friend want to do everything in one day? seems like a lot. wouldn't it be better to do the parks one day and HHN the next day or something ?

I did not see a RHPS forum so I figured I would put this here for everyone (this was posted elsewhere originally by a user named figment1988):
"just to let everyone know. I received information that this year, there will be a zero tolerance policy of any foul language. This means that any callback that uses any profanity will lead to expulsion from the theatre. Looks like they're going to crack down on all callbacks along with last year's callbacks involving rape and molestation, and they're going all out to ensure that there's strong censorship enforcement."

It was backed up elsewhere by a user named kiwisoup:
"There was an interview where the guy asked her directly about the call-backs and people being reprimanded for obscenities to find out if they were going to communicate with security more so that they wouldn't wrongly kick people out just doing what they are supposed to.
Her response was slightly hostile and she appeared visually agitated and defensive about it, insisting that Rocky Horror at a midnight showing and at a "PG-13" amusement park are completely different and that they basically will continue address obscenities, although she did say they did increase communication so that security has very clear instructions over what is ok and what is not."

My current thoughts are, that's one less show I have to bother with this year. We have a first timer attending with us this year so I had sort of resigned myself to the fact that I would be seeing RHPS again (even though I really did not want to) but I know he would not be happy with how this is being handled.

It looks like it's time to get a new tribute show...

Off the top of my head: Little Shop of Horrors, Repo the Genetic Opera, The Devil's Carnival, Toxic Avenger: The Musical, or Evil Dead: The Musical (the last two are real, look them up). DO IT, UNIVERSAL, DO IT NOW!

I saw someone else talking about this too. Hopefully it is just a CYA tactic from backlash at Hollywood B&T, they really don't need to be aiming at the lower age groups for HHN.
