I consider Chucky horror...that said there are some people who don't believe he's scary enough because of the comedy factor. I'm not saying it's what I believe but I am pointing out the reality that some people will inevitably complain about him not being scary enough. Also, just because he's meant to be terrifying doesn't mean the creators didn't intend him to be humorous too. If you don't think Don Mancini intended there to be camp and dark comedy within the series I'm not sure what to tell you lol.

Camp and dark comedy doesn’t make it not horror. Plenty of horror with comedy elements. Chuckie is a horror movie and doesn’t fit this clue at all.

I didn't say it didn't make it not horror. But okay.

What if it’s Get Out? Massively popular IP, divisive in the idea that they’d do a house based on its subject matter, and an in-house property with a director they’ve already worked with.

honestly that's not a bad idea, I'm just not sure that it would fit the speculative requirements. I don't really see people fighting over Get Out and Jordan Peele is relatively mainstream.

I think the idea is it would divide HHN fans into people who think there’s enough material to work with and those who do not perceive it as horror enough. While Peele has said it’s a horror film - especially for people of color - many view it as suspense/thriller.

I like your rationale for it. That works really well, because for many, it seems like a fine line between suspense/thriller and horror. I think that people typically look for the stereotypical horror elements for a house (demons, blood, gore, pointy objects, etc) but source material like Get Out could be really good.

Get Out fits, but 0 chance it’s coming. Universal isn’t taking that on for a house due to the plot.

that'd be nice, give us some basis to properly speculate on instead of throwing everything against the wall and seeing what sticks.

There was a discussion a few years ago, I believe at Midsummer Scream, where the Creators basically said it wasn’t coming. Something along the lines of “certain properties just can’t be translated”.

If this was the HHN Hollywood thread, I would've found this 100% believable.

“Johnny Knoxville Presents: Jackass 3D” house incoming, everyone!

Ok, now I may or may not just be throwing everything at the wall lmao

Jackass would make for a great HHN great show...

A Jackass attraction at HHN would be a REAL fear factor... lol

this is a wild guess, but Mortal Kombat. There was the recent movie, and it can be kind of brutal and horror-like.

I just don’t seeing Mortal Kombat being divisive with HHN fans, though. There’s a ton of great material to work from.

I am begging you guys to read the preceding few pages before throwing stuff at the wall. It's the same twelve guesses, and we're going in circles.

Agreed, I think @Bort has probably the best method/idea of figuring out what to look for.

Bort said:
I still think we as a group are struggling to grasp what a “divisive” property would be. Don’t play it safe with your guesses. Look for properties that you wouldn’t be sold on yourself, and then try to spin them into a house somehow.

For example, the pop culture phenomenon at the moment is HBO’s Euphoria. Is it horror? Absolutely not. But it has a rabid fan base, an A-list actress (Zendaya), a killer soundtrack, and plays to the Gen Z/Millenial demographics.

If they somehow found a way to turn this show into a house it would print money. And the diehards of HHN would absolutely hate it, especially when it ends up having the largest line of the night all season long.

That’s the kind of “divisive” property I think we need to be searching for.

*sigh*

Here is what we know from Rookie about the IP:

- The IP is popular with the general public and horror-adjacent. That pretty much knocks out “cult classic” and anime. This is something that Universal believes is a big enough IP that can headline despite not being obvious horror.
- It’s not a music artist or musical act.
- The HHN fandom will likely respond to the IP by vocally saying it doesn’t belong in a similar way they reacted to Eilish.

I’m also confident, based on stuff I’ve been told from others, that the IP is a TV show and/or movie. While that doesn’t eliminate all video games, it does eliminate most of them (and the popular enough to occur despite not being “horror” will likely eliminate most other video game options).

Assuming we can take all of these clues at face value, there’s actually not as many options as it would appear at first glance. Of those options, we can likely start taking some off the table to actually narrow things down.

Alright, I’ll take another guess…The Goonies. Popular IP that doesn’t really belong at HHN but has horror-adjacent content. Would also headline the event and draw in a similar crowd that GB and BJ did.
