Here's something to add fuel to the Stranger Things fire...

The Super Bowl ad just said that Stranger Things 2 will be released on Halloween. I wonder why they would choose to release it on that date?

Can you say cross-promotion with HHN?

I know we've been on and off about stranger things, but now that we know season 2 won't be out until Halloween I feel that it all but confirms it won't be at HHN because (I personally haven't watched the show) I know people have said there aren't many environments from season one and I don't think they'd use a season of the show that doesn't come out until the very end of the event and risk a confusing maze. Where as properties like Dracula Untold and Crimson Peak have left around half of the event to see the movie and experience the maze.

I don't see Stranger Things coming at all this year, to either coast.

Now that the Kurtz is out and Karen is in, I wonder if we'll see a change in how the event is run? Bigger budget? Alcohol sales? Bringing back BILL & TED? I'm surprised no one has speculated on this yet.

I know some of you are like, "no, alcohol will never return," but even Disneyland is now considering selling alcohol when Star Wars Land opens and that was one of the CARDINAL RULES Walt laid down 60 years ago. Never say never. It's such a huge profit margin. Depending if the new runner of the show wants that profit, we very well could see it return.

Does anyone know how the WWOHP test went and know if that will be open for HHN this year? I would love to see it happen.

I have always thought they should do a retheme of the JP ride with a few simple props, fog, lighting, and digital mapping. It doesn't even have to be a "retheme" to Orlando's Evilution. Just add a few cool things to make it more horrific.

I've been clamoring for this since the beginning! It wouldn't take much at all. One or two scareactors even would be a huge surprise and improvement. Even the nighttime Studio Tour segment on JP feels more HHN than the ride that's actually open during HHN.

2.Trick r treat -after a successful krampus maze why not bring this property

Can we really call Krampus successful? Those who did it, loved it, but other than the average HOH maze, it literally had the shortest lines I've ever seen for a maze in HHN post-hiatus history.

I really would enjoy MTV Scream being a house. There's been some insane kills on that show and some really cool environments. (My favorite being Will's from season one because there were chunks which made it extra brutal.) Everyone wants to crap on it, but it's not like it's a remake or a sequel? It's its own separate thing and the only similarity is there's a killer in a mask and the name of the show. (The Halloween special was dumb, though. Super dumb.)

The show is a huge guilty pleasure of mine. I know it's awful and has nothing to do with Scream, but I watch it religiously.  The Halloween special was especially bad, but I had such a fun time with it. Suspending my belief with that show is so hard, but seeing it at HHN would make me happy to see Scream in SOME capacity maze-wise. 2011 was the biggest let down with Scream, it needs some type of justice!

ridesanstuff said:
Just curious, but would you guys rather see individual scarezones or the return of the Gauntlet? Perhaps a mix of both?

I loved the Gauntlet, but there definitely needs to be a mixture of themes with the scarezones. It was fun to try it out for one year, but every street being a different horror is a fun, unique Halloween experience. So give us the Gauntlet in the front, but let's get different themes on the zones in other places, for sure!

P.S. Watching ush.hacker get shut down without mercy about the scare zone treatments thing was probably the biggest joy I've ever derived while reading a forum lol

I guess we should expect house #4 dropping soon because of Murdy's recent tweets. I thought to myself something this morning, since he is plowing through the mazes and soon to be scarezones I feel like he's going to go dead silent for a really long time till the first announcement is made.

Disneyland and Halloween Horror Nights are two very different things, though. One is a theme park that's open everyday year-round, while the other is a seasonal event. Each attract different crowds because they cater to those specific audiences. HHN boasts a vastly different environment from Disneyland, and I'd argue that it tends to attract more rowdy and unruly guests because of it. I'm not saying alcohol will never be sold at the event, but I don't think it's fair to say that they should bring it back simply because Disneyland might start doing so.

Oh no, I totally agree with you. I'm just saying don't rule it out! I just get drunk in the parking lot or City Walk beforehand anyway, so it makes no difference to me. But only on my second or third visit, I like to remember the first visit so I can have good detailed reviews haha

In other news, the Friday the 13th sequel has been indefinitely postponed. It didn't have much of a shot to come out this year anyway, even if they started filming tomorrow. I don't think this was on too many of our short lists, but I don't see it coming this year.  If FvJ was the last we see of Freddy or Jason for about a decade, they at least went out on a high note.

A bit of a hunch but I feel like this is somehow connected with FT13. It might be just a coincidence that Murdy is redesigning house #1 at the same time FT13 cancelled but hey who knows. Maybe maze #1 was the reboot and it's getting changed to an older FT13.

You might be on to something, that F13 cancellation was very sudden, they were literally less than 6 weeks away from filming and then BOOM, shut down.

Or perhaps he's redesigning F13 into a different slasher maze? Much like Scream being turned into The Purge, or something similar.

He can confirm that the IP did NOT change at all but rather got a redesign. This tweet can support my theory but can also shut it down as the reboot CAN be considered a 'separate' IP from the whole FT13 franchise as Paramount was making it. Not New Line Cinema. Then again, that theory killer is REALLY stretched out.

Don't Murdy's maze codenames usually have 4 to 5 layers of depth? That way we don't guess so easily? No way writers block refers that quickly to The Shining, right?

I do hope Chucky gets a proper stand alone maze. I don't count the House of Horror's overlay back in '09 as a true one. Orlando built one that same year from the ground up and the Japan HHN has had one the last 3 years that sounds pretty intense (the scene where Chucky is on the shoulders of a live actor then proceeds to chop his head off :o ). Even though his movies are now straight to dvd/streaming, he still holds a staple as a Universal horror icon, so why not finally build a maze in hollywood.

Usually they can go pretty deep, but without any hints it's hard to dig below the surface like usual. I think John is just mad that we've been able to crack the codenames easily (with some help from a leaked lineup) that he's making them nearly impossible for us to figure them out. Or he doesn't want to disappoint the hardcore fans after the spectacular 2016 lineup

What are you supposed to do after someone pops out at you and says boo?......You're supposed to "SCREAM".....I highly doubt that this is the codename but if this is it, my guess is still dumb.
