Horror Movies Thread

I’m gonna ask a generic question:

What is a good horror comedy?

For reference, I hate jump scares. Can’t do em for the most part. I love Jordan Peele’s movies, or movies like Split, that are very intense but creepy. Just no jump scares.

What would people recommend for me this fall? This feels like SO the forum to ask lol.
Dead Alive (also known as Braindead), over the top zombie flick, quite gory but also very funny, directed by Peter Jackson (one of his earlier films, way before he became famous with Lord of the Rings)

I’m taking down all of these! A friend is moving nearby soon so I need a movie buddy this fall. We will plow through this list!

I do sorta have no excuse to not watch Stephen King films lol

Obviously, if you're ever looking for non-judgmental recommendations ("OMG...you haven't seen that, bro?"), this is the place to come. I can get behind just about every other flick the other fine people have recommended as well.

Give us what you liked, and what you didn't like, and I'm sure we'd all be happy to help you curate a bigger list.

Horror comedy is my favorite genre, there's some really good recs so far, but here's my $0.02.
A mixed bag in regards to quality but:

What We Do in the Shadows
Cooties
Happy Death Day
Freaky
Housebound
Anna and the Apocalypse
Black Sheep
Fido
Happy Death Day I’ve seen! Good barometer for my tastes. Thought that was fun and clever. I was scared but didn’t feel the need to turn off ever.

You'd probably like Freaky, Housebound, and What We Do in the Shadows the most out of anything on that list, then!

What We Do in the Shadows is a masterpiece, definitely the strongest recommend on there from me. Ditto with the TV show with the same name.

Freaky is the same writer and director as Happy Death Day, so that's def a good suggestion.

What We Do in the Shadows is a lot of fun and more comedy in horror trappings. I was lucky to see the premiere episode with the cast at NY Comic-Con before it premiered. Season 3 starts next month too!

If you don't mind buckets of blood, Ash Vs. Evil Dead comes to mind, but that definitely has more gore for it, so that's up to your tastes, but I love me some silly Bruce Campbell.

Just came to me additionally, but for contemporary fare, The Babysitter (cannot vouch for the second one) was really fun in my opinion!
For a little holiday horror Krampus is a must watch for me, and for sheer weird Rubber and Bubba Ho-Tep are up there.

Funnily enough, horror comedy is also my favorite subgenre to the point where I've just this past week started an all encompassing attempt to watch as many of the staples as possible before Halloween. I'll put them in a spoiler so it doesn't clog the list. Just beware that this list isn't as much of a vote on quality as it is an all encompassing detail of most of the either highlights or marquee titles in the realm. Strictly speaking, Shaun of the Dead, Braindead, Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight, The Cabin in the Woods, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and You're Next are some of my personal faves!

If we are talking horror movies with Samara Weaving, Ready or Not and Mayhem are quite fun too.

Werewolves Within is funny.
loved the ATT girl in it.

double post edit*

speaking of horror comedies, my buddies and I in college came across this low budget spoof called supernatural activity. It was on netflix at the time and it is probably free somewhere now. Of course it could just be the good night we had watching the movie talking (college and all) but we all got a good laugh at the movie.

What about A Bucket of Blood? The 1959 Roger Corman movie. One of my personal favs.

The synopsis: “A dimwitted, impressionable busboy at a Bohemian café is acclaimed as a brilliant sculptor when he accidentally kills his landlady's cat and covers its body in clay to hide the evidence. When he is pressured to create similar work, he becomes murderous.”

It’s really, really funny and honestly pretty dark for its era. (No onscreen animal cruelty, btw.) Great performances and mood. Plus, because it’s a Roger Corman B-film, it’s only like 66 minutes long, if that does anything for you.

Corman's original LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is, tonally, in a very similar style, as well.

I don't think it has been mentioned during this discussion, but if you want horror comedy I think you could do a lot worse than Re-Animator. It's not overly scary, relying more on gore than scares but definitely brings the comedy factor.

I would go so far as to say that it has one of my favourite comedy scenes in a horror movie ever.
The cat scene. 'What would a note say Dan? Cat dead. Details later?'

Also, Barbara Crampton. One of the greats!

So the new Candyman is (surprisingly) getting good reviews from both critics and audiences. Ah the innocent days of yore when we thought it was coming to HHN 30...
