It is very much so, which is why even with a little more time passing I still can’t recommend anyone watch it.

Also watched Halloween Kills last night on Peacock, I actually didn’t hate it, but, I still didn’t love it. There was one scene that I really hated, but, for the most part I didn’t think it was the worst Halloween movie I’ve seen in the franchise.

I’m aware that it’s not real—it’s the whole point of the movie, which is based on child abductions and showing what could happen to said child in extremely graphic detail—that was/is so unsettling to me. No offense to YouTube reviewers, but, their opinions won’t change that for me.

HALLOWEEN KILLS is easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching. What a turd.

Any particular reason? I think of all the Halloween films I have seen 5 is the worst, though there are some I still have to see, such as the new one, and H20. Not sure if I ever saw Zombie's second one, remember seeing his first one, thought the half in the asylum was, but did not care that much for the rest. Still have the see the original producer's cut of Halloween 6 too, seen the regular release, which I actually more or less thought was decent. Of course nothing beats the original, closely followed by the sequel.

I think Halloween Kills suffers from audience knowledge the same way Infinity War did when it was released. The idea of Laurie forming a vigilante mob to stop Michael Myers once and for all is a really engaging concept. However, knowing ahead of time that there's another sequel coming out next year really does hinder the narrative and eliminates any suspense over what will happen to the characters.

I saw Halloween Kills at Beyond Fest. My thing with both DGG Halloween movies is that they’re self-serious. Horror is a unique genre because the iconography is preloaded with meaning and metaphor. When you turn sub-text into text, it drains the fun and power out of everything.

Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills are very literal movies, and therefore very dull.

I just got back from HALLOWEEN KILLS, and had fun with it, but it really suffers from "middle movie" syndrome.

And the interlude with...
the other escaped lunatic that we only just heard about in this movie
... really stopped the movie dead for a chunk in the second act.

Absolutely this. About two thirds through Kills I got the sudden surge of 'well, I already know Halloween Ends is coming so whatever is happening now doesn't have many stakes'. They weren't going to kill off Laurie before the 'finale' which brings me to my main complaint against HK: manufactured character significance. The movie feels like such a space filler and it accomplishes that by re-introducing or creating new legacy and lore characters who we should care for yet have barely (or never) seen in a long time. It would feel worlds better if we had got something of the sort resembling the Tommy Doyle crew or the Hawkins plot in the 2018 reboot. Instead they feel shoehorned in to pad time.

The middle chunk with the fellow escapee and the blood thirsty gang is just goofy and bizarre and feels out of place and like it's preaching.... something?

I loved how brutal it was and I did like some of the comedy, though it leaned too funny at points. I'm hoping once they were given the greenlight for two sequels, they really decided to just throw a bunch of weirdness at the wall and have fun with Kills while they saved the more important and powerful stuff for Ends.

Finally, John Carpenter kicks so much ass as a musician and composer. The score of this new reboot is in the top 3 best things about them.

Watched VHS 1994 on Shudder. If anyone doesn't know the series, the VHS films are 4 or 5 short 'found footage' stories tied together through some kind of wraparound story. I actually thought this was one of the stronger entries in the series.

Some mild spoilers follow:

The first story was fairly generic and suffered from showing too much of the monster, but I liked the idea and am always a sucker for a unique monster design.

The second story was decently creepy, though somewhat predictable. Good makeup effects though.

The third story was the best. It started off as Frankenstein and then turned into Doom about halfway through. The first half was definitely stronger, but if you enjoy gore then this will be right up your street.

The fourth story was the weakest. An interesting premise but all the characters were super irritating and the story didn't make a whole lot of sense. Good creature design again though.

The wraparound story was terrible in this one. Took ages for anything to happen and the big 'twist' was meh because we hardly know any of the characters.

Overall a 7/10,which is pretty good for the VHS series really.

Halloween Kills... best comedy of the year? I was genuinely laughing my butt off at so many pivotal moments and kills that it was hard to take anything about the movie seriously. It's so so so so so so SO so bad. But its definitely this year's so bad its good. It legitimately feels like a comedy.

Big and Little John were very funny, helps that Little John was played by Stuart from MadTV. Some of the characters were laughably dumb.

Halloween Kills "killed" my excitement for the 3rd movie. I was not a fan of the direction they took with

Part of me wonder if Halloween Kills will be seen in A new light once the story is finished in Ends next year. Something similar happened to the Bond film Spectre after the most recent film came out. A lot of people said that it improved the previous film on release.

well it wasn't just that. it wasn't just audience knowledge.

I really hated it because it has some of the worst characters in the franchise. really bad dialogue, really bad cheesy mob scenes, really bad pacing. tommy Doyle was pretty bad, cheesy, the characters from the original weren't used that well, kinda wasted. the dialogue is just really terrible.
the hospital stuff in the middle was cringe. the mob was like a parody like scary movie or something.. Laurie does nothing, her daughter does nothing, the movie doesn't know if it wants to be serious and realistic or fantastical and supernatural.

what a mess, of the entire halloween franchise this might be the worst one for me personally, yes, even worse than resurrection lol. it was really bad

I’m kicking myself for not getting the peacock app earlier. Not only is it free, but it has a pretty decent list of horror movies (though I don’t get why I have to get a premium to watch the Elm Street films). I pray that there is still enough to watch in November.

Films I managed to watch was Videodrome, Saw 2004, and Tales from the Hood 2. The former was more boring than I realized barring some cool death scenes, the middle was a surprisingly effective thriller with a cool twist ending I was lucky to be surprised by, and the latter was a pretty cool anthology movie; though I have problems with the last short. I don’t have a firm idea what actually happened there; and it seemed at odds with the rest of the movie; it almost seemed like a historical drama.

Watch the rest of the Saw films. If you thought that first twist was something…you haven’t seen anything yet.

If you want to see some real life horror, look up the story of Emmett Till. That’s what that last Tales from the Hood segment is based on. Probably why it seemed like an historic drama to you.

Unfortunately I already am aware of the reveal that the series goes WAY past Kramer’s death and that he wasn’t working alone. Besides, I’m not a fan of “torture porn” films and that’s what I hear is basically every movie since the third one.

Yeah I know about the real-life stories, but the plot of this particular short from Tales of the Hood 2 I don’t get.How did reality shift to where the protagonist’s wife hates him and he is arrested? How did the protagonist die exactly? And maybe I misunderstood something but did the wife think her child was going to be possessed or something? IDK. And the tone was at odds with the other stories shown, I don’t think it was horror*.

*In the sense of horror that the other shorts were going by.

The fight scene in John Carpenter’s They Live nearly killed my interest in the movie.

I've often thought it was a bit overkill.

So it’s November now, and as I feared all the good stuff is gone. Now when I tried to look for the horror section I mostly see a bunch of titles that look like generic run-of-the-mill fluff. Boy I really need to start planning ahead.

Anyone got some recommendations on what they DO have?
