Wasn't a coaster similar to this rumored to come to IOA at some point? I distinctly remember talks of a Jurrasic steel coaster (not the Mine coaster)... is it possible that it just got switched over to USJ?

A B&M Hyper was pitched. It would have gone where Kong is.

I still like the family amber mine coaster idea and hope it eventually comes to fruition. But.. you know.. keep it low to the ground.

As much as people here hate coasters for the way they destroy the landscape, you could probably hide a coaster pretty well in JP considering how many trees there are. It would probably be a major eye sore from Suess Landing however if they were to have built a hyper. For something like JP, I'd expect a coaster similar to something you'd find at Alton Towers.

Edit: Thinking about Alton Towers, you know what would make for a great type of ride for JP?

Nemesis: Sub-Terra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's like a combination of a drop ride and Lilo and Stitch. Now imagine that with a velociraptor on the loose and a drop at the end.

You know, people around here are always talking about adding an attraction in the Trike area or expanding it into the Discovery Center area also & putting in a coaster. And the commentary often speaks of the small area available. While I was out today I drove past our local park, Kennywood. And then it struck me. About five years ago they put in a new coaster. The park has an extremely small footprint, so they never have much room to work with. Right in front of me was the Sky Rocket, It's a 52" ht. restriction, Lunch Coaster, 0 to 50 in under three seconds, 95' vertical jump with a 90 degree plummet and lots of inversions. I rode it the first years it was open and its fun & smooth as all heck. But low capacity like most coasters. Really good looking and fairly unobtrusive. And best of all it has such a small footprint that it probably doesn't take up much more than a acre of land, if that. Now that's something that they could easily fit into the remainder of the Trike area with lots of room to spare. And you wouldn't need to extend it to near the Discovery Center, and ruin the ambiance of the island. Theme it up a bit, and you'd have a nice addition to JP. And it being behind the lake and buildings, not occupying much of an area, it wouldn't be much of a sight line restriction.

On a side note I can't wait until my daughter is taller and I can finally ride these newer rides at Kennywood. My BIL and mom don't do thrill rides, so my husband and I can never go on this stuff when we are at Kennywood. I so badly wanted to try this coaster last time we were there.

Now on the JP side. I personally would want a family coaster. I think both parks really need a family coaster with a 40" height restriction. High enough to make it interesting and not kiddie, but low enough that the 4 to 8 crowd can ride it.

I think we're getting it.

It just won't be Jurassic Park themed.

I always pictured the Donkey Kong Mine Cart coaster as being indoors, because most of the time you are in caves and caverns while riding the mine cart in the game (at least in the original versions). I hope that Universal stays true to that theme.

Ever since the Donkey Kong Mine Train rumor has come about i've always pictured it as basically being what the JP coaster would've been, just DK themed, so it makes sense.

There are some great small coasters out there. El Loco takes up virtually no space and is brilliant.

I don't think it would be right for a Universal park but it shows what could be done. I think JP has so much content that even the smallest of rides can be made into great ones and themed wonderfully.

Even take the El Loco coaster for example, put that inside the raptor area with tall walls and a few AAs and it would be a nice small edition.

El Loco feels so strange to ride, it's fairly slow - feels a bit stop start, but does the strange turn into the half loop and odd banked turns.

Good fun though!

I still think a tightly packed, highly themed dino-infested amber mine coaster would be something fun. Maybe it could incorporate a flythrough of the aviary as some have suggested.

Another cool choice would be some sort of dark ride, like the 'science tour' from the first JP. Have the beginning be sciencey, then introduce something more fun, perhaps raptor training. From there, have something go awry and some fun pandemonium erupts before you are safely ushered out. I guess it would be a hybridization of something like 'Stitch's Great Escape' & the 'Carousel of Progress'. It would be a cool fit for Jurassic Park & Universal IMO, a perfect family ride that everyone could enjoy.
