I am hoping that they go with the IMAX Laser Projectors.

I wish it had described what laser projection is... as in, is there an actual laser zapping the screen with info?

From what the article said it sounds like the lasers are the light source, being able to produce a brighter image with less heat.

No, laser projectors are usually a hybrid type thing that uses a blue laser as the light source and a yellow phosphor disc to diffuse it into white light.

Yeah, I just watched a video this morning of how other digital projectors work. A chip called a DMD contains millions of micro mirrors that flip on and off a zillion times a second. It hurt my brain.

It just never ceases to amaze me, Disney puts all this money into Avatar, a film that isn't even a franchise and doesn't appear to have a huge fan base after it left theaters, and waits an eternity to build a Star Wars land, a franchise with 6, soon to be 7 films, an animated film and TV show, books, comics, its own convention, merchandise, and legions of fans dating back to 1977. Talk about a stupid idea.

because one fits the theme of DAK and the other is Star wars which will go (eventually into DHS)
they wanted to keep DAK open longer into the night and what they re doing at DAK with avatar as well as ROL and the night safari will accomplish this

It is still a stupid decision; I would rather there be more animal exhibits or something at DAK, perhaps showcasing nocturnal animals. I personally think DHS needs more help than DAK, but I adore animals and could spend hours just watching the bats.

The mental gymnastics to justify having Avatar to fit in DAK is hilarious. As Disneyhead put it, using the same logic Wall-E fits into DAK.

As for SW, I do expect it before 2021.

None of this was the idea behind Avatar. Avatar was a panic move because Big Boy Bob's ego was hurt after Potter kicked his parks in the family jewels. All of the rest are side effect benefits.

Omfg is that Duffy real? What is it Duff Vader?

Avatar land has no place in animal kingdom, I remember on WDW Magic I was saying how dinosaur should be rethemed to Indy and people were saying how Indy has nothing to do with animals... Yet these same people were pro avatar.

Avatar literally has as much place in that park as flight of the navigator!

I think avatar has a lot to do with animals, if animal kingdoms purpose was to show more animals than the ones we are used to everyday then avatar is the perfect representation of fantasy animals brought to life through the screen. If avatar doesn't fit in, neither does Everest, dinosaur and GASP beastly kingdom

and all of that is opinion and internet myth mentioned over and over none w=of which you know is true
not saying its not true but who cares why they chose it
its coming and has some nice potential, DAK has a chance here to really expand their park into a complete nighttime experience

Avater: humanity havesting earth for resources to build a big ass space ship to mine a planet for... resources. Mining 1 tiny part of a planet with no oxigen by kicking down trees. Making blue Pocahontas angry. Lesson: big company kills natural resources. The logic in this movie has gone out with the story and perfomances. Lets build it in AK now!

The first Star Tours opened January 9 1987. Disney must have had the ip at least in 1986 but attraction wise it only stayed with this old and tired simulater that got a long overdue update. An IP that is bigger then anything around on this planet. Bigger then Bond, Potter and Middle Earth combined and all Disney did is milk the cow and spend almost no cash to give guests what they want. The same goes for the Disney Vilains. Remember that party? Right overcrowded and oversold but they are still not buildning Vilain Land. Disney is stupid. And please don't give me the "people are stil going to WDW in droves and Disney is making a ton of money" I know and these dump idiots are the main problem and turned WDW into a second rate over priced piece of crap.

im not defending Disney, universal has a ton of momentum right now and will continue that going forward I just mentioned why Pandora is a better fit to DAK than Star Wars

The message of avatar doesn't matter, the setting and world does and that's why anybody cared about it in the first place

the message of standing up on behalf of nature definitely matters...and the reason people will flock to the park for this is what the place looked like so in a sense I agree with you
conservation themes for a movie is a hard selling point movie goers, yet this worked

trying not turn this into an avatar thread
again just brought up why avatar is a better fit than star wars which it unequivocally is

From what I've seen of the Avatar concept art it will fit in well with Animal Kingdom. As some said previously, it's not far from looking similar to a Beastly Kingdom, which AK fans have wished for from the beginning. And it also appears to be an area that will translate well into a night time setting. You won't have to be a fan of Avatar to enjoy what's coming. The land will transcend the source material. I, for one, am looking forward to it.

Regardless of how one feels about Avatar, it sure beats the life out of Camp Minnie-Mickey any day.
