Those are monikers for describing where to find your desired E-Ticket.
The name of an attraction is very much like a film title - it's your first impression, as a lay guest, besides billboards and a sketch of it on the maps. How it is visually presented in the setting of the attraction is one aspect (which is very hit or miss), but the way it is pronounced, as it is always done at least once before riding, makes you want to read its description and understand it, or perhaps just decide you want to do it after glancing at what kind of attraction it is.
You'd think that with Disney's way of naming its main attractions well and often succinctly (Expedition Everest, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tower of Terror (as its known), Star Tours) it would have given the ride something better. I don't hate it, but it just sounds awkward, especially because we're not "becoming" Avatars. Something like "Avatar: First Flight" or "Banshee Flying Tours" (if it were being monitored by the travel company) perhaps would have worked better.
