A major film franchise gets a theme park ride. I video game only reproduces it, much like a theme park. Very few video games have inspired a motion picture directly, let alone a theme park attraction, if any.

Do most children and parents know the clown fish named NEMO? Do most parents know F-Zero coaster or Yoshi's Island?

I do not know the answer to one of the questions above, but I feel secure in the other. I rest my case.

Your comparison was skewed because you named something very specific about Yoshi and just brought up Nemo's name. You named one of Yoshi's homes or locations that has a very specific name. Not a lot of general audience kids and parents can name the landmarks of Radiator Springs either. Many do not know the name of Gringott's bank but you can bet they would all line up to ride it because they know the characters and it is the bank from the movie. Not everyone can tell you that Peter Parker works at the Daily Bugle but he and the character Spiderman. Not every parent or child knows the book If I ran the Zoo or Circus McMirkus either. But they are infamous.

The big video games like Mario Bros definitely has enough character appeal to warrant an attraction in some form at a theme park. Not as big as Potter or Star Wars but it would easily bring in the international merch market.

Do most Disney guests know who Br'er Rabbit is? Or Rod Sterling? Or Mr. Toad, for that matter? Nevertheless, they're the face of some of Disney's most iconic attractions. Same applied for Universal. I mean, really... how often do parents name-drop Dudly Doright ? Is it fair to compare these characters to someone like Buzz Lightyear or Spider-Man? Nope. So comparing Falcon to Nemo is a poor case to rest on.

Mario and Yoshi, Link and Zelda, and Pickachu and Charizard... these are household names. Parents and kids know them alike. Hell, my parents know them and I wasn't even allowed to watch Pokemon as a kid. On another note, Disney seems keen on castles, princesses, and heroes. Two Castles, several princesses, and countless heroes. Merchandise heaven. And again, it would bring about a nice bag of thrill rides for adults with shows and other kiddy affairs for the younger crowd. Nintendo is WinCity USA.

I feel like a lot of parents know who Nemo is because their kids dragged them to the movie. Whereas they'll be familiar with Nintendo because they played the games as children. I mean, there can't be more than a handful of Americans who have no idea who Mario and Luigi are.

It was on the topic of popular culture in theme parks. Which at this point is all Avatar has to go on. I just want to point out these subtopics often happen on boards and there is no need to rush in just to say Back on Topic if there is nothing to add to said topic. All you are going to have them is a mostly quiet thread thanks to Disney not announcing or putting anything else into action. If you want to get on people for getting back on a very specific topic, you should probably have something to input yourself more than "sooo" after. Not trying to be rude, just saying. It kills discussion.

I think a Nintendo theme park isn't such a bad idea, I just don't think it fits with Disney. Although they actually have pretty close business ties due to the recent "Epic Mickey" games.

Although....Xbox is getting that "Virtual Disneyland game" for Kinect.

Just one last thing about Nintendo:

It wouldn't make sense for it to be in any of the theme parks. However it would be a perfect match for DisneyQuest. That place needs to be redone. And a big picture of Mario's face on the side of the building would definitely draw people in. Teebin, you're wrong. Mario? Pikachu? They are just as well known (if not more) than Cinderella or Ariel.

But yeah, Avatar... Blue people... Let's talk about nothing again!

A Nintendo sponsored Disney Quest with exclusive games for the arcade is a really good idea.

Anyway...Cameron is to busy at the bottom of the sea to work on his them park attention.

HTML:
I don't think Nintendo being a videogame company would clash with Disney at all. You can convert games into lands attractions just as easily, if not more so, as you could film. The characters in the Nintendo-verse look Disneyesk by default. It would be fine. I still want Avatar to work out, but I do think Nintendo would be one of the best punches against Potter Disney could get.

The point was being made by another that some video game themed attraction could be a knock-out punch to Potter. Do you really think that Mario or Pikachu is going to take on Harry Potter??? Hmmm???

I am not wrong.

Oh, but I believe you are wrong. Very wrong, actually.

-Nintendo characters appeal to both young and old proving an equally wide (though I'd argue wider) demographic than Potter
-7 books/8 films VS a literal library of source material to pull from
-Such diversity in games (Zelda, Metroid, Kirby) would create a higher diversity in rides and attractions
-Merchandise would be more ample (pulling from dozens of games instead of a handful of books) and equally as unique
-While Potter expansions are limited to pretty much Diagon, Gringotts, and the train, Nintendo expansions are seemingly limitless
-Disney+Nintendo will damn near monopolize childhoods (they learn to play games before they tackling novels, afterall)
-Adapting the virtual worlds of video games into theme park lands would be a first and give Disney an edge that has yet to be handled
-Oh... and Disney actually has ROOM to do this justice. They won't have to, say, bulldoze Thunder Mountain just to squeeze it in ;)

So I guess Nintendo wouldn't be knock-out punch to Potter, no... it would be a FALCON PUNCH!!!!

While I think Nintendo attractions would be cool and popular, saying they could combat Potter is laughable.

I have to agree with Teebin.

You say that, but guess who will still be making best-selling video games and nextgen consoles when Potter is reduced to stagnant nostalgia? On top of superior longevity, Nintendo just has more angles to approach, more expansive worlds, and a far larger host of iconic characters behind it. It would undoubtedly bring worth combat against the the Wizarding World.

Like they did with Horizons and World of Motion?

Horizons and and WoM isn't to Epcot what Jaws was to Universal. Sorry.
