What forums have you been reading? I have read so many "anti-Avatar" posts online, I could probably write a Thesis.
I'm not referring to just this forum by the way.

I think a lot of anti avatar posts are getting mixed up with comments about the land and movie. Communication has been admitingly poor.

Except nearly EVERYONE has said the land will be cool.

It's still super dumb that they spent nearly a billion on an Avatar land.

I'd love to take the inflation price into account so we could compare and see in reality how much this land cost compared to the entire Animal Kingdom park?

I'd love to see a poll like this redone next February/March after Disney's hype machine ramps up for Avatar. And not include SWL as it'll always win. I'm interested in TSL v. Pandora.

That wasn't a Disney site though, that was Disney itself.

I totally see why TSL would beet Avatar. The target Disney audience is families with kids. Their kids love toy story and love TSM when they visit DHS. So they know they will just "love" this new expansion. Most families with kids are not going to be more excited about Avatar. Where I think AK will make the most impact is now being a full day park with things offered in the night. I think it will force people to stay longer in AK and potentially add a day to their vacation. The other option is the remove DHS and replace with AK, but that only lasts until TSL opens up in 2018. Then people add a day to their vacation.

I think a small group of people will plan additional vacations around this, but I think more what will happen is how people vacation at the 4 parks will change with AK taking up a larger chunk of time in their vacation. When DHS gets TSL & SWL it will also change things because DHS will be longer, but I personally think they need another phase for that park to even be considered a full day park. I think because of waits and new offerings it will be a full day park the first year SWL opens, but will quickly drop back down to not a full day park.

Finally made it out to Animal Kingdom on Sunday, and I will say that seeing the floating mountains in person did not do anything for me. I will further add that spending time in the park reminded me what it is about (or supposed to be about) and AVATAR really doesn't mesh with the mission or vision of the park. I am sure the area will be nice, but I am not so sure that it belongs.

I agree, but unfortunately shoehorning attractions into areas they don't belong very much seems to be the new Disney way :(:(:(

Lots of good points Izzy. I agree with most everything you said....And just to add a bit to what you said about DHS. Those 4 attractions for TSL &SW, with one being a C ticket flat ride, a coaster that's a D ticket at best, and whatever level the SW attractions end up being (either two E tickets or one E one D). will only bring the park back to the capacity it was at before they closed all the other attractions down. And DHS was only considered to be a half day or 3/4 day park then. And I highly doubt Disney will add another DHS expansion phase before ten years are gone.

Not here, but over on Magic they practically threw a temper-tantrum at the thought of it taking the spot of the MS Bakery.

Funny thing is, DL opened in 1955 with a street filled with 3rd party vendors

I think what you will see is Avatar will be a sleeper home-run for many people's vacations. As you stated, Avatar isn't Disney's normal target audience. However, the land will be beautiful and the rides will be fun enough/provide enough diversity (Finally a slow moving dark ride at DAK) that many that didn't even know they were interested in it will really have a great time.

Well I think the spot is bad. No one complained with the other locations. I don't think those people hate Starbucks.

Oh people are going to like it. No doubt. My protests come from the fact that I think a billion dollars could have added a lot more to the park if it wasn't tied up in making Jim Cameron happy.

Agreed which is why I think after the crowds go away and the lines die down, it will go back to not being a full day park. I feel like they fixed AK, but what they are doing will not fix DHS.

Agreed. Which is why I think TSL & SWL will have the biggest impact when it opens, I think Avatar will be a long term impact. It will not cause people to add a day to their first vacation, but after seeing it will realize they want to spend a whole day there. Where with TSL & SWL people will plan their vacation and add extra days to see those, but after a couple years their vacation patterns will return to how they were before UNLESS Disney realizes this and adds a Phase 3 by 2025.

I honestly think both are far from "fixed" after these projects. IMO the DAK changes turn the park from a "6 hours in the morning park" to a "6 hours in the evening park". And even then, that's dependent on how good Rivers of Light is. Both parks will still only have a handful of rides.

AK's draw is the animals and shows. Rides is not their thing. People spend a good bit of time seeing the animals, enjoying the environment, etc. For most families it is a jammed packed 6 to 8 hour park and adding two more rides with a land that has many things to look at will add 1 to 2 hours to their day. Then add in the multiple night time offerings you are adding in another 1 to 2 hours. If you just do 6 hours at night, you won't be able to do all the things you did before in AK and those things people like today.

ETA: For the clientele on here, yes, your pattern will change to 6 hours at night. But ask someone with kids who want to see the animals, LK show, etc. you will get a different answer.

1) I think you're HIGHLY overestimating how much people explore the park.

2) Even if you're not, if you show up at 3, you have 2+ hours (depending on sunset) to see all the animals. The nighttime safari is there to see those ones. FOTLK and Nemo will run into the night, I'm sure. Exploring the environment will be BETTER at night. You wouldn't be missing out on anything.

at least with DAK you lost nothing you just gained a nighttime show (whatever it is) and a new land
with DHS i think its a wash so i agree
