How's the gift shop looking today?

Heard it would take like 5 days to re-do the gift shop and once they start that we'd have a good idea when the ride will be opening. This was right when the Mummy closed though, so thing could have changed. But, I heard Sahara Traders would be getting some upgrades to be better than before it was turned into a temporary Monsters tribute, and that's why it can't just be switched back overnight...

In other words, I would guess the ride could open as soon as a week from now?

Obviously I’m excited for the ride to reopen…

But also kinda geeked about the museum-themed fences. It used to bother me that the fencing for everything in every section of the park were those metal UO-branded barricades. Shows UO is making strides to caring about the details, even when they still have some built-in COVID excuses they could use.

It was Dr. Caligari, in the Mummy queue, with a spatula

This is one of the coolest easter eggs/references I've seen lately. I'd love for the ride to have this backstory.

That letter is from an address on Harryhausen Dr. Ray Harryhausen mentored under Willis O'Brien who did the stop-motion for the original King Kong. Nice touch.

Also, I can't help but notice, this is very very far away from anything resembling "Hot Set" theming:

Awesome touch for sure. The gift shop didn't have too much of a hot set theme in the past right?

Mainly just the ramp down and photo pass stuff. And the wall closest to arcade entry. Then you pass into a well themed shop.

Them decorating the ramp is already one of the best things to come out of this IMO.

I'm confused here, those bookshelves can't be staying.

It looks like they put some framed photographs/pieces on the walls, though.

So it looks like they’re jettisoning the movie idea entirely?

I can’t believe that they’re connecting the backstory to kong! Doing this also makes the attraction fit in New York quite well. Before, it felt awkward and shoehorned, as neither ancient Egypt nor movie sets really scream NYC, but NYC is known for its museums. By embracing the museum aspect, this attraction may actually finally fit into its surroundings. Not sure if they’ve changed the story, but judging by the new theming, I wouldn’t be surprised if the attraction takes on a story similar to Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea, given all of the mentions of cursed artifacts
