That to me is locations they wanted to show off and not a fleshed out true storyline. As I said I like it, just not a favorite of mine.

I dont get it. If your not excited about the ride and sharing new information about the ride and the technology involved why would you bother posting to this thread. Now, every time there is a new post I get excited to read it, only to find someone talking about something they know nothing about "what the end product will be like" and how it's going to be a letdown. If you truly think you will be disapointed, don't ride it. Your imagination will always paint a grander picture than reality. That's why movies rarely are better than the book they are based on.

I think half the thrill of any ride is the anticipation of what to expect. I don't want to be told that I should expect to be disappointed, because even if I am let down, the anticipation and excitement leading up to that disappointment, far outweighs what any ride could achieve.

This is going to be a great ride, full of the latest technology, created from great imaginations, pushing the limits of what can be done. Will it be better than my imagination, doubtful. Will it be an expierience unlike anything else, definitely.

I don't think people AREN'T excited, just checking expectations. This won't be a religious experience. ;)

If you're a "story" person I could see that.

Personally I think "story" is the least interesting part of an attraction, so FJ is freaking awesome.

But Gringotts and Spider-Man are better.

As a narrative experience, the ride is basically a mess. However, that's a case where the mixture of screens, sets, and AAs/animated figures is so strong that it knocks me flat every time. As of right now, I think it represents the best balance of screens and physical stuff (setpieces, AAs/animated figures) on the property, and because those things are very important to me, it rises way above Gringotts for me.

Something that doesn't really get conveyed well over videos and pictures is how curved the outdoor track is...in person you can see that the ride path isn't flat. That's what helps the vehicle swing and rock around when it's not on the motion base. There's some loose suspension on these things!

Only thing I'm disappointed with is the timing. It's obvious Gate#3 is coming and I would have saved Kong for a fully fledged area and saved the current plot for JP. But I think they might be a little too far in the construction process to change that. ;)

I agree, I never care that much about the storyline, it is just there to make it more of a well-rounded experience. But face it, how many people actually pay attention to it and get immersed in it?
As for Gringotts, even here the story is a bit odd. We are not the intruders, so why are we being attacked? Gringotts prides itself on having a great security system, yet it attacks us. And why would Voldermort waste his time with us when he knows Harry Potter is there?

Well we are supposed to be with Harry so anyone working with him is against Voldermort and Bellatrix who aren't the most understanding.

This has got me thinking. Was this ride always supposed to be Kong or was it possibly the jeep Jurassic Park ride that never was with an overlay?

Watching Jurassic World last week, I did think this truck reminded of the Kong one.

I figured the jeep ride was more Dinosaur/ Indy like.

No one said anyone can't be excited. I choose to not let myself get too carried away with excitement in the build up and enjoy it later. Others are different.

I'm terrible at imagining the size of land and buildings from drawings and photos so I'm not really expecting this to be that big but everything I've read on here is telling me otherwise.

It's not that it's necessarily huge, but it has a sort of presence when you're standing in front of it that's difficult to capture in a picture.

I've always thought of Kong as being the 2016 version of these rides.

Universal may have taken the most general of cues from the concept, but the original JP jeep ride idea was FAR different from what we're getting with Kong...

http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2011/10/islands-of-adventure-jurassic-park-jeep.html

I'd still love to see this version come to life at some point, but the lack of space makes that basically impossible, unless they slap "Jurassic World" on it and put it in a 3rd gate.

What I love about the trackless technology used in Kong is that if a ride like that was built and was similar to the film with the track being quite obvious between the wheels.

latest

When something goes wrong on the ride, which it always does, the jeep will be able drive itself off the obvious track and potentially freak out whoever notices it. After typing this, I've just realised it would be the same gag as the River Adventure. :bonk:

That is why they never created this ride. It was too similar to River Adventure and a water ride seemed more unique at the time.

Weirdly, next door to 2 other water rides although I'd say Jurassic Park was set in stone well before Toon Lagoon.
