Is attendance down at DHS? It was really crowded the two days we spent there in October. But then again, all the people were in the front of the park. It was basically deserted from Muppets to the back through SOA & LMA & Toy Story to the back of the park. Very long lines for the remaining attractions though. Even the outside queue for Star Tours was overflowing and I had never seen people in that queue on my previous trips.

Attendance is down at all the parks minus MK. Epcot is hanging in the best with the festivals.

I'm thinking Star Wars Phase 1 for Fall 2018, which will be no new rides, just a new environment around the ride and a couple of new shopping areas. Like the phases of new Fantasyland. Keep Star Tours open the whole time.

Strange as it may seem, we've always liked DHS. Citizens of Hollywood, good shows plus Fantasmic, and a few, though only a few, of Disney's best rides. And we've always like the Hollywood vibe and atmosphere. But I know we're in the really small minority on that.

With additional attraction closings and word spreading about the park's current state I would not be surprised.

I like it too but it's so unbearably crowded with everything else closed off that it's just not fun anymore. It actually was, at one point my favorite Disney park but now it just sucks. And with the new stuff coming, the feeling of crowdedness might never go away.

I think what they're hoping is that new additions at Animal Kingdom over the next few years will keep people busy and revenue coming in until they can open something up at DHS.

BTW, Is Star Tours gonna be around for the new land or just a distraction til it opens? There didn't seem to be any mention of it in the announcement. All I heard was Fly the Millenium Falcon, and another ride. Are we getting two identical lands between Disneyland and DHS? Because Star Tours is at the opposite end of the park at Disneyland.

For Orlando, i'd atleast expect ST to stay..but for Disneyland to keep StarTours is a different story, due to how far away that is to the upcoming themed environment.

Regarding the often discussed 'over budget' nature of most WDW projects, I would assume as is the case in many large organisations that these budgets are inflated somewhat to disguise the fact money is probably being spent elsewhere on property, ie maintenance, perhaps they've overspent on overheads etc. Much easier to say 'this cost this much but we have started so we will need the money to continue' than 'we need even more money on top of that project to fix this'. In these huge organisations the levels of bureaucracy often result in such tinkering.

OK, so from my post in the expansion thread I realized how out of the loop I was for this project. So I went back and read all 51 pages. I skimmed thru some of the stuff I had read before, but I read a good bit of it over the last 2 days. I have to say this thread is pretty funny reading it now that we know what we know. Statements like they will never go into the parking lot, never expand the park foot print, never move roads, etc. When Cars Land was removed out of the project everyone said it will be years and years (2020+) before we see anything done by back lot area. That people are dreamers if you think we are getting anything but a watered down SWL. Anyways, pretty much everyone was wrong in one way or another. So based on that, I am going to say many are still wrong and that Disney will get TSL done by the end of 2017 and SWL done by the end of 2018. If they start construction at the beginning of next year that gives them over 2 1/2 years to get construction done by the end of 2018, which I think they can do if they want to. Avatar is going to be 3 1/2 years but they really dragged their feet at the beginning when they had the photo op of breaking ground. With them compressing timelines and adding what they are adding to DHS I really think 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 years for constructions is reasonable.

from what i heard from people who read the permits that got leaked Disney is opening star-wars land and toy-story land in 2018 so they are gonna pull the crew from avatar land once its finished but that also means nothing is opening in the studios in 2017 i guess o i also heard that star wars land is gonna be the parks new icon and driving down the road instead of seeing tower of terror you will see part of star-wars land

Yeah, that's a bunch of BS.

Not saying that it will or won't be open in 2018, but the permits that extend to late 2018 have no bearing on an actual finish date to the project, nor was the permit filed even for in park work. The permit filed was mostly for changing the road/parking situation.

You can file a permit and finish the job before the permit end date. You can also not finish by the end date and file for an extension. The permit means nothing.

With construction sped up, there's no way Toy Story opens in 2018 unless something happens behind the scenes.

Interesting. Since some other insiders have been saying by the end of 2017 TSL will be open. I never thought it was slated for early 2017, but I thought the goal was late 2017. I can totally see them changing it from ToT to Star Wars. I also see a ton of billboards going up along I4 and 528. It only makes sense that they will advertise the crap out of Star Wars to get people to come back to a park that has been awful for years now.

whatever happens star wars land will make or break Disney because toy-story land will be aimed at small kids so it prob wont draw most people to it

Nothing is breaking Disney at this point. If their attendance can go up while building nothing, Star Wars is not breaking anything. Also, Star Wars WILL succeed. There is no question about that. If Star War fans made it thru Movie 1 to still go to Movie 2 & 3, nothing is going to stop them from coming to see SWL and spending a ton of money. It is a gold mine just waiting for Disney.

TSL actually fills a need for that park. Some families don't go to DHS because it is not as kid friendly as the other parks. It has more "thrill" rides than the other parks and very few kid rides, more kids shows. So TSL was needed to fill that void for Disney. So it will do what it needs to do which is get families with kids to come while the adults and older kids are going to Star Wars and oh yeah, spending a ton of money on merch. SWL will not only increase attendance at DHS, but also increase merch which is what they really need.

So an area of a DISNEY park aimed at small kids "won't" be a draw for most people? How much crack are you smoking, and can I have some? You've had too much.
