In a theme park, the parkscape plays a critical role in the establishment of the experience.

This. It doesn't make the ride any worse, but it certainly doesn't make the look of the overall park any better.

If Universal really wants to take Disney's crown away from them, they can't throw a few pipes on a big ugly building and call it a day.

It's a building. It's one of the most technologically advanced rides ever created.

Some of you sound worse than a few toddlers I know who ask for candy but when given they complain bc they got sour skittles instead of the original kind.

Seriously? It's a theme park. The theming here, or lack thereof, is a problem. Not a major problem, and it wouldn't deter me from riding TF, but it affects the overall look.
As of now, yes, TF looks like crap. Really grey crap. I'll give it a month, and if I'm proven wrong, then it's a win-win.
And I don't think what is being said on this thread is that of complaining. I think, knowing that Uni can produce some seriously fantastic facades, this building's exterior is a bit of a let down to say the least.

They really need to add some three-dimensional characters crawling on the sides of the building or something. Guests should be able to look at the building from all directions in the park and understand which ride building they're looking at. The warehouse look isn't terrible in theory, but quickly tips the scales that direction if there's only minor theming - i.e., E7 & NEST markings.

So far I am not hating it. And when they finish aging it, I think it will be fine. Great, no probably not. But I think it will be ok.

And given what they have going, and what I have heard they have planned else where in the park the exterior of this will be a minor speed bump at best.

That's the most frustrating thing, though. Why cheap out here when you're going all out elsewhere? It's horribly uneven.

This project was quick and dirty from the get go. And given it's location, I think the end result will be OK. It will adequately convey "Military Industrial".

No people won't be saying, "The themeing is AMAZING!" but I don't think you will hear any complaints in the park

I think it is odd that it was the "NEST" thing that sent people over the edge.

I think it's unfortunate that they couldn't get the columns evenly spaced on the lagoon side. Other than that, it's not that bad.

Honestly, I don't think it looks that bad. And I'm pretty picky when it comes to theming...

And, we have some huge appliques yet to be welded onto the building. It will be big and sexy, I am sure. A wee bit in the Marvel island style, but that will be cool.

Personally, I think the building looks a lot better in person than it does on the pictures.

Hahaha. Yes, the building has just received it's first thematic elements and everyone is already starting to bash on it. I personally am going to wait until it is completed or almost near completion before I make judgments on how the building will look.

I think at this point it's pretty clear the direction they're taking this. DM did look better in person, than in the pictures. So I might not be as disappointed. But I don't get why I can't say it looks like crap so far. Because it does.

As a creative person, I HATE HATE HATE people seeing my work before its completed, because its usually quite ugly.

So in the spirit of that, I am not going to judge the way it looks now, I'll wait until its finished

I respect that. That's fine. But we'd have nothing to talk about if we didn't judge things before they were done

I'm surprised people are so offended by those of us who don't like it. Nobody said it will ruin the ride, the park, or anything else. We don't have to like everything.

The TF building might actually have more theming than most of the other attractions at Universal besides HP 2.0. I thought the theming of Universal Studios was to be a working television/film studio with backlot set designs and minimal exterior theming just to inform you what was going on in the different studio buildings. Though I understand that Universal wants to step up their theming especially with HP 2.0 and Simpsons.

I'm holding judgement till I see it in person once finished. (or at least really nice westcoaster-ish style photos)

There's a way to do industrial in a way that's authentic and good looking. So far it's neither.

To be fair JT your hating on something that is incomplete and acknowledging that its incomplete. I know we're here to spark conversation but don't be shocked when people defend an unfinished project. You can't proclaim an opinion and not expect others to disagree, especially when your withholding your entire viewpoint on the opinion since the entire viewpoint isn't even in view

Totally expect people to disagree. But I didn't think saying it's tacky so far was the most outlandish thing in the world. It's unfinished, so the positive viewpoint is every bit as incomplete as mine.

UPDATE: I hope thegame460 doesn't mind, but here is his picture from twitter.

"Finished" or not, I don't see how I will ever like that
