I seem to recall the Village would be within the land, and that the restaurant would be out front, no?

Restaurant in front of the land, facing hub, was definitely not themed to Monsters.

Also, I think the Classic Monsters may have to be a little more tongue in cheek like the old Beetlejuice shows. It's hard to take those monsters too seriously.

I thought this was supposed to be the land with a darker edge.

Would be a waste of the characters, in my view, if they're just going to spoof them.

Yeah I have a hard time believing Universal of all companies would not have the... uh guts to do the monsters proper. Long as we do not get a hotel transylvania land :ack:

No I am just bored at summer school and having a bit of fun. sorry. I am optimistic about this whole park until I see a reason not to be with my own eyes.

Lol that’s a great restaurant name. One of the most pleasantly surprising things about following this project is how seemingly everything initially speculated has been somewhat up in the air at some point with the exception of Nintendo and Monsters. The monsters are such a cool property and really seems like a new park is the best opportunity to capitalize on them in the parks.

No, not really.

"Thought," "would," and "if" were some key qualifiers. And I was bouncing off somebody else speculating that the tone of the land might be like Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue.

Which seems perfectly in-keeping with a thread titled "Wish List and Speculation."

Of course. "Stake House" would be a presumption of a good number of steak choices on the menu. Though I love the name, I'm not sure how well that would work. Le Cellier
is one of the few steak houses I can recall in a theme park.

“Darker” doesn’t necessarily mean “scary,” which I think is the fascinating aspect of fan excitement for the land. It’s easy to look at a “Classic Monsters Land” and think, “Daytime Horror Nights! Wooo!” But that ignores the fact that the land still has to be kid- (and scaredy-cat-) accessible. It’s very likely going to feel far more like Lost Continents or (especially) Hogsmeade than what the subject matter implies.

Which was always Universal’s best wheel-house. Kongfrontation and Jaws were serious, accessible, and a little bit silly while playing the subject matter entirely straight.

I expect the village to be very dark/realistic but I can't imagine an attraction being overly dark and instead trying to find a balance between scary/realistic and a little humor the way Haunted Mansion does. If it's too dark you loose a lot of audience.

The fact that there's a stage show planned for the land also makes me think there's not really a way to do a scary stage show involving Universal Monsters. When you look at past and existing things in the park that have used the UMs there's always a bit of humor since these characters are almost 100 years old and no one really finds them "scary" anymore. They are much more "beloved" characters at this point.

I'm not saying I think this will be a wacky take on them, but there's definitely a limit to the dark edge for the GP in a theme park.

All fair! And I wasn't trying to suggest I was expecting (or wanting) some EXTREEEMMMEEE take on the Classic Monsters, because that would be entirely out of line with the older movies, which -- though they treat the characters straight -- are not devoid of even some intentional goofiness.

I think you can 100% do a land that is accessible to all ages, is "fun-spooky" rather than "scary," and is faithful to the feel of the movies. It just shouldn't have to be an interpretation that might, to borrow some slang, take the Mickey out of the characters a bit too much.
