“Darker” doesn’t necessarily mean “scary,” which I think is the fascinating aspect of fan excitement for the land. It’s easy to look at a “Classic Monsters Land” and think, “Daytime Horror Nights! Wooo!” But that ignores the fact that the land still has to be kid- (and scaredy-cat-) accessible. It’s very likely going to feel far more like Lost Continents or (especially) Hogsmeade than what the subject matter implies.
Which was always Universal’s best wheel-house. Kongfrontation and Jaws were serious, accessible, and a little bit silly while playing the subject matter entirely straight.
