Is this going to be a loop track or just a straight piece?

No one knows. It might be one track... It might be two tracks (for capacity). But I suspect it will be trains going back an forth like the OIA monorails. I do not expect a loop or turntable.

The number of tracks could possibly be determined once there is an actual foundation poured for the footers, but that might not happen for some time. In the dark till then, I presume

how would that work? my friend and i have been trying to figure out how the train would turn around from hogsmeade to diagon alley, and have thought of ideas like the engine turning only and attaching itself to the rest of the train cars, or a bridge that would allow the train to make a 180 turn from station to station.?

I have been expecting something like a funicular cable car system. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Funicular_layouts.svg&page=1 See track layout two on your right. A cable is attached to each train and loops around at one of the stations, this ensures that both trains are running at the same speed and arrive at the passing tracks at the same time. Each train could then pull in behind a stationary locomotive at the station.

Caught a glimpse of one of the pylon foundations they're working on right behind the library facade and special events area, and it was a very big, square hole. This will definitely be elevated backstage, and given the size, I'd guess double tracks for at least some of the length.

That would probably be for the switch track coming to and from Universal, it was proposed that that little piece would happen somewhere around the mummy showbuilding so what you're saying makes sense

Even with 2 tracks..I imagine the car will be a 4 minute ride from station to station, and depending on the size of the train, about 3-4 minutes loading? And it's 2 trips, so you're talking about 16 minutes for a full trip. And assuming the train will be about 3-4 cars in length, so I'm sure a great deal of people can fit in..but it still seems like a lot of people will be waiting a long time, and not in a continuous line but a stop and move which I know drives me crazy. I know this is all speculation, and no one really knows how this is going to be done yet, but it will definitely be interesting to see.

The way it's setup, I'd imagine the attraction will be almost constantly loading. One train will be pulling out as the other is pulling in, and a massive amount of people per each train.

Also, I think the 8 minute cycle time might be a little high. The distance isn't all that much. I'm expecting something closer to 4-5.

Hmm...what would be cool is a little pre-show room telling us how to reach platform 9 3/4. That way they could funnel us into a room going "through" a pillar and the train is magically waiting for us, billowing out smoke like our impression of it in the first movie. And that way we don't really see the train pulling up. And it could exit in a room next to the station, then the train pulls a small loop, to be facing the direction we have to head. And this will also make it to where people don't have to "pick a side" if there is two tracks.

How about just coaster track with LIMs for propulsion? Thats always ad idea right? Im not sure though how the cost of that would compare to a monorail type setup.

This all seems like a super weird line of questioning to me. Our public transit system out here is Bart. That runs in two directions without ever turning around. Got an engine on both ends.

I really dont think it's going to be as challenging as some are thinking it will be. I mean even with 2 trains and a ridiculous amounts of cars and the maximum seating capacity with both trains leaving at the same time this will still eat people up. I dont think Universal is pushing for a Magic Kingdom style wrap around, view the sites train. These suckers don't have to go as far either so really (at first lines will be horrendous) but I'm more interested in seeing what they do for Gringott's.

IMO I think Intamin got a package deal done and will supply both Gringotts, HE, and quite possibly another attraction or attractions at another park, like maybe Korea.

Because they've had a terrible track record of getting attractions up and running recently.

Well that could be because the parks they usually deal with run on a tight schedule. Knowing Universal and how far in advance they began running the FJ system I would imagine Gringotts would be testing 6 months before Grand Opening. They know what there doing and will have all the bugs worked out LONG before we ever know about a possible opening date.
