I really doubt it would be Intamin. The concept art for the Gringott's vehicles showed the base frame... which looks very similar to Premier's design used on Mummy. Given that Universal already has a coaster from them, and the fact that that ride also has switch tracks, it just makes sense. From what I understand, the various Mummy rides has made Universal and Premier very close friends. I just don't see it being Intamin.

The only time I heard Intamin mentioned was when Universal was rumored to be looking at them to build new vehicles for Rockit.

It could also be that Intamin was brought in just to handle the drop part tech of the coaster. They did do the new one up north correct?

No, Verbolten was built by Zierer.

But Intamin did build Thirteen at Alton Towers, which is a drop coaster.

Wasn't this the topic of conversation a few months ago? Was there not some type of cable-pulley system that seemed to be the best fit for the job? That way the trains do not need to turn, but rather just run back and forth on the track

how would that work? my friend and i have been trying to figure out how the train would turn around from hogsmeade to diagon alley, and have thought of ideas like the engine turning only and attaching itself to the rest of the train cars, or a bridge that would allow the train to make a 180 turn from station to station.?

I'm not exactly sure of the details, but I remember something being talked about that was along the lines of this: a train that was connected on either end by one big cable, and it could be pulled into one station (Hogsmeade) and then (without reversing) simply pulled out of that station and into another one (Kings cross). All with pulleys, so there is no actual on-board engine. Think of something like a tramway (skii-lefts) but in a train form with a track and all that good stuff.

IIRC, the rumored funicular cable-based system was from a company called Doppelmayr: http://www.doppelmayr.com/en/doppelmayr-international/products/funiculars.html?country=all

Funiculars

Funicular railways operate with one or two cars or train sets running on a dedicated guideway or track and offer maximum availability in windy conditions. Operation is normally in the to-and-fro mode, with a haul rope used to provide the traction. Maximum line speed is 14 m/s, and car or train capacity can be anything between 20 and 400 persons. Transport capacity can vary between 500 and 3,000 persons per hour, depending on car capacity, line speed and line length.

Coincidentally, the same company designed a similar concept called Ocean Express at Ocean Park, a Hong Kong theme park. The are screens above guests to make it feel like the train has submerged into the depths of the sea:

There are pillars going up in the backlot. They look about 6 feet wide, so not sure if it will be one or two tracks. Judging by the width, probably one, but I don't know enough to say.

Random user just posted this to the Universal Facebook page, no idea if it's fan made or not, but thought it was worth sharing.

Awesome news.

It's frustrating sometimes when you know there's news out there and you don't have anyone to go get it.
