I'm agreeing with everyone else on this Twister or this flying thing? Twister all the way.

I don't really care for Twister but right now Twister sounds like the better option.

Can we get rid of Shrek? please? I would take 80's tech Jimmy Fallon over Shrek (though I would hope something better replaces it.)

Let me clarify a bit of confusion, it isn't like a twelve passenger DM attraction, but more like a 75-100 passenger DM attraction. One big honkin mess of a gizmo. *spits on ground twice*

Think I know what you mean, those giant simulators where the entire theater moves, they were popular in the early days of simulation and 3D rides?

So the plan is to go full-on '80s/'90s-style simulator with this? What a waste. The park already has two of those (Despicable Me and Simpsons), and Shrek has vaguely simulator-ish elements, too. Now, if this were replacing Shrek, say, I'd feel less resistant to it, but to lose a unique (in the studios park) experience for decades-old technology with a lame (in my opinion, and based on the rumors) theme would really kind of tick me off. I don't like being such a downer about this, but I guess I'm realizing I'm a bigger fan of Twister than I thought!

Plus, consider this downward trajectory of the IP tenants that building has housed:

1. Ghostbusters Spooktacular - One of the most fun and impressive live shows I ever saw in a theme park. They built a giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man head!

<a few notches below that>

2. Twister - A less iconic IP, but still a large-scale practical experience with some very cool effects and gags (except that damn cow...).

<about 100 notches below that>

3. Jimmy Fallon/Soarin' Over New York/Glorified NBC Commercial - A flight simulator.

That's a pretty stark drop off in scale, ambition, and theme.

To cut some slack... this may be UC's Avatar, forced on them by Mr. Cable to create more "synergy".

Listen, I'll let everyone finish, and this does sound like a bad concept, but that building has never had anything house it that even comes close to being "good".

Yea, yea, everyone will lose their minds that I called the Ghostbusters show bad. But it was. It's just fondly remembered because it's old and involved a popular IP.

That's a fair enough point. Maybe this is the best they can do given the corporate mandates and the budget they've been given. That still doesn't mean it'll be any good, or a worthy and unique addition to the park. But we shall have to wait and see, I guess.

I don't think you're in the minority at all. Honestly, I figured I was. My nostalgia-infused memories of watching the show as a 6-year-old have no doubt painted a picture in my mind that's a little more impressive than the reality probably was. I do know I loved the show, and have strong affection for the Ghostbusters franchise. I'd take a sub-par GB attraction over the Fallon thing (however well-executed) any day of the week.

As for Twister not being "good," I think it gets a slightly bad rap, and I have fun with it. Again, in a park that has a lot of dark-ride/simulator hybrids, pure simulators, and 3D shows, I think "live" or "for-real" experiences like Twister are vital in keeping the park well-rounded and full of variety.

Can we at least acknowledge Twister used to be amazing when all the effects worked? Or is the crowd here just too young to remember that?

It was maybe amazing if you hadn't seen Backdraft in Hollywood.

I saw Backdraft first and always felt Twister was a subpar recreation. Even the holding rooms in Backdraft were better.

As far as Fallon goes, I was never really excited so I do not think I can be disappointed. It is more of a wait and see for me.

This is how I see it when a park puts in a new attraction: make it something different that the park doesn't already have, and make the attraction have a great re-ride ability. Twister is a great attraction because there is nothing else like it, but I believe that something better can be put in that location. However, don't replace a ride just because you want something different.

Do something right or don't do it at all. Throw that money at Shrek instead.

Just playing devil's advocate, but Corkscrew Hill at BGW used this sort of moving floor simulator, and it wasn't bad at all.
Even better, what if they used something like the Dynamic Motion Flyboard stand-up simulator system?:

Also, as someone who sat in the booth and watched Ghostbusters a dozen times a day until it closed, that show was freakin awesome! :-)

I rode that at BGW a few times. It had a lot more movement than DM. The problem though, is that I always got queasy from the ride. I usually only get motion sickness from spinners, real tough coasters, and FJ, a little, before they toned it down. So if it's similar to BGW it would have the potential for a modicum of thrill, though dated thrill.
