It is the smart way to do it if you can.

Sparky mentioned in the Kong thread that all the hotels are BOOKED next week. Universal is roaring along.

I loved Orlando Weekly's take on the layoffs: Nearly two months after Shanghai Disneyland opens, Disney layoffs the team that built it | Blogs | Orlando Weekly

"Disney has confirmed that the Orlando department was included in the layoffs. The last time Orlando saw a massive layoff of Imagineers Universal quickly hired them.

Universal is believed to be currently planning a third major theme park for the Orlando market. No word on if any of the Imagineers who were laid off will be part of that project, but it is highly likely that some will end up at Universal Creative."

You know, in the past, whenever WDW had attendance gains, an immediate thread would be posted on Magic, and posters would be bragging how WDW is blowing Uni out of the water. It's quiet as a "mouse" over there on these attendance declines. Not even a "cricket" is chirping.:)

Just took a peek over there. You are not exaggerating. When it was a rumor they were debating back and forth. Now that it's a fact they are not talking about it at all.

The third quarter likely won't help Walt Disney World either. They will probably have a bad July and August with a decent September. It will still be a loss in attendance most likely.

Well, I'm sure the crowds will be back in time for the opening of the new Star Wars land. Whatever decade that happens in.

Anyone have any insights over the second and third quarters for Universal? The first quarter was even. The second was probably down slightly, though no numbers were given.

I am thinking the third quarter will be up. It will cover July through September. We have the openings of Sapphire Bay, Kong and Hulk. Hotels have been booked solid. Crowds seem to be good. Crowds seem to be better than Walt Disney World.

Yeah, honestly, I couldn't find a single comment since the fact, anywhere. Maybe I missed one, but I doubt it.

Smoke and mirrors only last so long. Eventually, people pull back the curtain and find that there was no wizard or pixie dust. I love going to WDW but it's been the same thing for a long time. New Fantasyland was okay but underwhelming. EPCOT is ,well, enough said. Same for DHS. AK is usually interesting but not a full day park. If exec's were honest, they would admit that they blew it at running the parks and that it is time to pay the piper. Sadly, self-reflection and honesty aren't typically part of the WDW executive line of thinking.

I looked at the two threads that cover crowds and attendance over there and there was nothing. I should mention about the only time I ever look at that forum is when somebody mentions it on this forum. Otherwise I am perfectly happy with Orlando United.

I used to have an annual pass for years and went every month. I finally stopped when I realized that it was the exact same thing month after month, year after year. In some cases it was even less. It just got boring.

I believe WDW made a mistake trying to make each park so different. They should have just kept building parks with different castles in the middle, with a variety of different lands surrounding it and plenty of rides. The other parks ended up with a lack of rides and a lack of a Disney feel, at least compared to Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.

I have read that guest satisfaction for Animal Kingdom is higher if people went to it before Magic Kingdom. When you go after Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom is a let down.

If WDW has another attendance drop for the July, August, September quarter, and looking at crowds thus far it's almost inevitable, that will be three straight quarters of attendance losses. If this were the economy, it would be declared a recession....On another note, Uni hanging in there with attendance is a real credit to them. With WDW attracting less tourists, that's less guests taking a day trip down to Universal.

It only takes two quarters of decline in GDP to be declared a recession. Walt Disney World is still making money. However, it is impossible to deny there is a trend in attendance.
Unless you use enough :pixie:

Or claim this was the plan all along.:ears:

Or it would be the worst business plan ever put together. ie. we want less customers and less money. :bonk:

You apparently don't look at Spirit's threads. Those are constantly filled with financial talk.

And most people are pretty negative over on Magic these days. It's not some jar of pixie dust anymore.

From what I've heard their business plan is they want less guests and more $$$. If that is the case it's working so far.

I'm not talking about the past. I've read those and referred to them in my previous posts. I'm referring to the quiet since the quarterly report on Tues. afternoon. Nothing on Spirit's threads either.

But those weren't really good percentage numbers for revenue increases. Plus you can only raise all prices & cut staffing so much, and that's where those numbers came from. And the only park I've heard the less guests thing is MK. not the others. They keep trying to divert attendance to the others but it doesn't work.

There's a thread in the Disney Co. News sub-forum. Someone started one in the parks section, but then the other thread was linked to so it got no traction.

Thanks, that's must be really hidden away. Those are always right out front generally....I just looked there now. I don't see anything from Tuesday or today. If it exists it must be in a top secret area. Do you have a link?

Just spent some time there. First, I am assuming Spirit is WDW1974. That took a while to figure out. Found his big thread and looked at some of his recent posts.

Found a Q3 discussion in the WDCo./Disney News and Discussion folder. It is not heavy on attendance but does cover it a bit.

You are spot on about the financial talk there, though the Q3 discussion was only 3 pages long. Definitely not a lot of pixie dust in those discussions. Thanks for the heads up.

Finally found it. It was really way back there. Yeah, only three pages and most every post was the argument between our own Disneyhead and Capt. America, who is the ultimate pixie Duster....Anyway, I think the key points of what little is on that thread is by Parent's of Four, who has an excellent reputation as kind of the statistical master on Magic. Parents of Four said that the available room nights decreased . Per room guest spending was down 1.3% compared to the same period last year. He said the occupancy rate was up mostly because Disney offered more discounted rooms. He also said domestic P&R was up only 4.8 %, which was the smallest quarterly increase since the Great Recession. It was also mentioned that Disney had entire wings down in some hotels, which would make the occupancy rate appear higher....Not a rosy picture. And I'm sure the success of the Disneyland Resort propped up those numbers.
