I don’t think it’s any reason to completely dismiss him, either. You can hear advice from both the leading authorities and Gates.

Like I said, if Bill Gates is like, someone you trust right now, go for it. Whatever provides comfort. I'm glad Bill Gates spent his money on this stuff. It's cool that he understands it. But I think it's important to underline the fact that he's not a trained expert in this area, regardless of how much money he's spent on the subject. Saying Bill Gates has a "saner response" implies it's the one we should pay attention to. Sorry, but that's wrong. He is not an expert, and he is not an epidemiologist. He's just rich. Misinformation and a general lack of understanding spreads just easily as the virus right now.

Not to be a jerk, but Bill Gates is not an epidemiologist. He's obviously smart person, but he's not an authority here. Having billions of dollars doesn't make you an expert on everything. I will keep listening to the medical professionals, not the computer software guys.

Epidemiologists are not good at projections. It’s been shown many times. They’re certainly needed and should be listened to, but I’d take their projections with a grain of salt.

As I mentioned earlier, the person who has had by far the most accurate timeline projections is Michael Levitt; who is a statistician, not a scientist/epidemiologist.
Note: I’m not saying Gates should be listened to: I haven’t read what he said. Just saying that medical professionals are not exclusively the only people we should hear from or get input. Take everything with a grain of salt, of course. For me; proof of product is most important, which is why I’ve really been listening to what Levitt has said.

Yes, we should listen to the experts, but every expert adds to a different facet of the overall picture.

I did a quick search of Michael Levitt and didn't see anything regarding his projection accuracy, do you happen to have a link of something you can post?

Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden, Longhorn, etc) is closing all their dining rooms and offering takeout only.

The best news I saw all day is more studies are showing the heat and humidity of summer may help slow the disease down. It's good to be in Florida sometimes...

I actually posted about the Imperial in the general discussion, and while it is certainly sobering and frightening, it is not the only voice in the conversation.

With that being said, we are going to really be tested over the next two weeks. We gotta hang in there for one another... And we have to keep up hope that we will get through this if we are all prudent and take the steps necessary to keep everyone safe.

If Knott's doesn't reopen till mid-May, they will have been closed for two whole months. Just a week ago, Disneyland announced that they were closing for 2 weeks. Disneyland might feel safe opening sooner since they have more resources to help control crowds and such than Knott's does. Hopefully, we get an update from Disney soon.

No one knows how long any of this will be until we get a few weeks of data with the self imposed measures.

It's confirmed.

Also, looks like Japan is starting to normalize... granted there are still some very protective measures in place.

It'll be a while before we reach that point here. These Spring Break parties are time bombs. The big LGBTQ+ festival in Miami has already caused 9 confirmed cases...

A little bit of levity for these dark times ...

My friend's three (!) daughters all work at Longhorn. Yesterday oldest calls her at 10 am, "mom get down here!" (She's furloughed from Disney so nothing else to do.) The restaurant was selling its surplus food at rock bottom prices. Like $1 chicken breasts and $2/pound ground beef. Given her shaky employment status, my friend dropped like a $175 and now has meat for months.

Yes. Pittsburgh newspapers reported a CMU student returning from spring break parties just tested positive.

Normally I would trust Japan unequivocally. But my gut instinct tells me they’re hiding numbers and trying to get to normal faster than they would have all as a means to salvage the Olympics.

That's not really I'm asking though, since Disneyland has a clear history and Universal Hollywood unfortunately does not (I can't tell if they close after 9/11 or not or something like that).

Japan also has a culture where germs spread less. Use of masks, no hand shakes, etc.
