The roads here in the tourist district are so empty...

I had the thought today that Magic Kingdom was really designed for crowds of about 30,000 a day, not the 50,000+ they had been cramming into the park. It will be interesting to see if they do limit crowds on reopening if it will look and feel more like the 70's with space to move and really make the parks more enjoyable.

Buena Vista Palace, on Hotel Plaza Blvd, has closed -- no set date but not accepting reservations until May 1, if you want to try reading the tealeaves.

All of the state social distancing orders coming down make the shoulder to shoulder crowds jamming the DHS entrance to try to get a boarding pass seem all the more horrific now.

And that shoulder to shoulder rope drop stuff was happening as recently as last Sunday, which is the thing that’s a bit more unsettling.

yes....and they've known about the corono problem for a couple of months, for all intents and purposes. And probably a smattering of tourists from the first infected Chinese province . They had millions traveling all over China and foreign countries at the start of the Chinese New Year and after. Probably not a ton of them at WDW but still bound to be some significant numbers. Tourists from every state and many countries of the world all jammed together. All it would have taken was a few infected tourists to ultimately spread it everywhere, just like those spring break beach crowds.

Just to be clear, these have not been approved by the FDA for treatment and are currently being looked at as possible treatments. Many state boards of pharmacy are placing huge restrictions on dispensing these drugs because after Trump stated they were approved for treatment (which they have not been and the FDA later said as much) doctors started prescribing these meds for themselves and family members pre-emptively. Yes they may have an impact, but the study what was initially done consisted of 30 patients, of which I think only 10 were actually treated with that drug combo so much more research is needed before we can say it's an effective treatment.

The CDC says differently. Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Do not believe everything the news says it's likely wrong. There are accounts of survivors swearing by the meds turning there health around.

From your link:

“There are no currently available data from Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs) to inform clinical guidance on the use, dosing, or duration of hydroxychloroquine for prophylaxis or treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

New York is implementing the use of the drugs tomorrow. Only as a treatment for patients who are in dire need of literally any help to stay alive, however. Governor Cuomo confirmed this at his press conference earlier.

Looks like the Olympics have been postponed.

eu.usatoday.com

IOC member says 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be postponed because of coronavirus pandemic

Veteran IOC member Dick Pound told USA TODAY Sports that "postponement has been decided" for the 2020 Olympics, and that it won't start July 24.

yes....but they're still looking at the possibility of later this summer....among other time options, like 2021. ....to be determined.

And the fact that all sports are being postponed right now may help them. Unless the NBA decides to just outright cancel the rest of this season and start up again in October, then this NBA season won't be finishing up until July/August anyway, meaning that the start of next season might be pushed off until December from one of the proposals i've heard. That scenario would allow enough time for the basketball teams to still compete, which is one of the main draws of the summer olympics.

I just think moving it is probably for the best to move it to next year though. Gives enough time for people to get over the fear of travel, make new plans, and it will be the best chance to guarantee all teems are there to compete.

When life returns to normal, things are going to be wild and busy.

I decided to close my shop today for the foreseeable future but every event that was cancelled has been postponed until later in the year and even some events that I thought for sure wouldn't return this year have now been approved.

Yeah, I kind of agree with you that 2021 is probably the best alternative for an event like this that has such a huge scope and big footprint..on another note...The second half of 2020, if this crisis settles, will have a ton of events scheduled, entertainment wise. That competition will be interesting....and on yet another front, NHL owners are conferring, since it appears some of the less wealthy owners/teams may be experiencing a money/liquidity type crisis.

At this point, what else is there really to cancel? Barbecuing on July 4th?

This is a very weird and unprecedented time in history, but like Scott said, on the other side of this I see a potential boom happening since people will have been kept away from any sense of normalcy for a prolonged period of time. People are gonna want to go to the movies again and other similar things that we can’t do right now.

It all depends on what this stimulus package gives people, though. Does it give people enough to get by for awhile or will the homeless population grow to alarming numbers?

I watched that press conference. He said he was expecting on this lasting 2-3 months as-is before we get there. He was talking about a plan for an eventual transition.

What are the conservative pundits & Trump admin officials (sans Fauci) saying?

There's a disturbing calculus being made right now - the one I (and others) warned was coming. The solution is a diseased "restarted" economy or actual stimulus. Right now, the former is being floated.

Cuomo has been one of the most vocal proponents of shelter in place and self-isolation. He isn't suggesting people go back to work next week. He's advocating for a plan that opens up aspects of the economy in 2-3 months, a timeline that lines up with how long the CDC said it would take to flatten the curve if enough people sheltered in place. Nothing has changed.

EDIT: I'm also well aware of Trump's suggestions (implicit and otherwise) that he's going to make things go back to normal at the end of the week. But A) He says a lot of things, and B) By all accounts, this week is going to be the worst week of this pandemic yet. Regardless of his actions, I think you would see a lot of entities -- corporations, certain public works, individual Americans, etc. -- continue to enact their own quarantine/closure policies regardless of what he allows.

The fact that they won’t do an actual stimulus for the people speaks volumes to what they actually think of the working class.

That said, this discussion is probably better suited for the general discussion thread.
