OK, I know this is totally off topic, but how can you hate Publix?!? I have never heard anyone say this before. Most people say they love it, but that they can get stuff cheaper at Wal-mart, but never heard the word hate being used for that store.

O/T Yes Publix is great. They have their own line of ice cream and the Lemon Sugar Cookie flavor is one of the best I've had anywhere. So good...try it if you haven't already!

Have you ever talked to an employee about what they have to put up with. Maybe up north it's better but in south Florida they abuse the hell out of their employees. My problem with it is that the company makes themselves seem all perfect and what not but they have baggers doing everything for the same pay as a bagger that only bags. They wanna save bags, so they use the excuse of saving the environment when in fact it's them being stingy. So I've seen the managers make them bag as much into a bag as possible crushing everything. Being a customer there may be great but talk to the employees and see what they say.

I freaking LOVE Publix and will gladly pay 10-15% more to shop in there store vs going to a Winn Dixie or god forbid Wal Mart. I would also highly recommend working for them over every other big box retailer outside of Cosco.

The only thing bad about publix is their customer service and staff manners. Some of the carriage return guys (mostly the ones they hire to be kind and politically correct) rush the exit door to block patrons from holding them up. The "kind" hires also do and say the doofiest/inappropriate things in the bagging line. I LOVE the WWII & Korean war retired hires as they have great common sense and courtesy.

Some of the managers are lazy sots that do not have a clue about top/mid notch customer service.

Publix brand products are top top notch as a general rule. Usually better than the biggest brand names.

Ohhh and Teebin, it's not about being right and politically correct, they get money for having them. Same for minors (18 and below) most of the money that is donated to charities is because the managers harass the employees to sell them so they can look good.

Worked for Publix as a Temp out in their main warehouses down here in lakeland. I loved working in the Deli, I was working on the line and the packaging station as well. Its crazy intense! They wanted to hire me full time but they didnt have the room so I got shipped off to the diary plant and worked 8 pm to 5 am shifts. Needless to say I had a bad incident with floor chemicals and listened to the wrong people and was booted out of there. I hated being fired but the hours were killing me lol.

As far as the bag thing, every company wants to save money. And many of them do it in a PR friendly way by using a green initiative. (Universal Orlando for one) I doubt company policy is to cram as many things in a bag as possible, crushing everything. But I'm sure you should try and fit as many things in a bag as possible without crushing everything. This feels like either one very bad manager or people taking the instruction to the extreme.

And as far as having baggers that do everything get paid the same as baggers who just bag, if your in the same job title then yea your going to get paid the same thing. Again this might come from a specific stores bad managment?

Overall you don't get listed on a list like best 100 companies to work for if your employees all hate it there. In fact everyone I know who works at publix loves it.
