And the current rumor is it's way behind schedule, and getting some cuts to FX. It was supposed to open in March. Now I'm hearing June.
Oh sheesh I hope the budget cuts aren't true. Aside from the fact that the concept in its entirety is a cost-saving measure, there should be no reason not to put your 100% in this one. With OLC suddenly putting hold on Frozen at TDS (and DCA entertainment supposedly reluctanctly closing Aladdin), one wonders if Disney really is suddenly having cold feet about Frozen as a franchise with staying power.
Or, ever worse, this actually be a casualty of Shanghai Disneyland. Which would make for two Disney CEOs in a row that made a huge gamble on opening a foreign theme park only for it to blow up in their faces, causing the stateside parks to suffer. Except the depressing fact that at least DLP sunk Disney's finances after it opened... here it seems to be affecting things and the damn park isn't even open yet.
Iger knows that no matter what, he can't pull the budget from Star Wars Land. Every Disney exec knows that, especially considering the money TFA is currently banking for them. That's great! ...except that in the process they are also backing up two hugely expensive, maligned projects. (Avatar/Shanghai) Oh, and let's not forget the costly MyMagic-Plus. To just hope SWL will make everything okay in the end is honestly such a bizarre notion. It's a 14-acre land, let's not just ignore infrastructure due to it. Yes, DHS will be helped a bit but it's a really small cog.
Even worse is Disneyland, which they are abysmally handling with the SWL intrusion. And I'm not talking about the goats going away or the the DLRR/RoA/TSI changes, I'm talking about balance. So far their plans to bulk up for Star Wars is literally adding nothing more of increased capacity. 2016 will see three new attractions at DCA, but they're all minor replacements. As much as I loved the retheme of Condor Flats, it's not doing what the DCA expansion project did. Obviously DL is being expanded, and yea as such, the park will be fine itself. (although if they're keeping Toontown, please fix it up!)
But why aren't they bulking up DCA more? There's one expansion pad left, and two essentially still dead spots in the park (back of Hollywood Land and Maliboomer), you'd think that they'd do something with SOME of that to soak up those SWL crowds. But nope: DCA is "done" being fixed, and so is every non-DHS problem at WDW apparently. Why? A couple of bad ideas. Really, really significantly huge bad ideas.
