Its an in-universe nod to Disney World/Sea World (as the story revolves around an open park similar to those). But yeah, I'm torn on the name. I think I would like it more if its logo wasn't the steel/blue look.

I always have a hell of a time on both Popeye and Dudley! They will always be my favorite water rides. By the way does anybody know why Universal Studios have to close so damn early in the middle of the week? 6:00?? What is this Animal Kingdom?! At RTU the other night I realized how much I loved being at Universal at night. I wish they stayed open late more. I mean even Magic Kingdom is open late or even till 9 at least on almost every night! I don't get it. I would expect this to change in the future when all these new projects are finished. Also I've seen worse titles. But I would agree, they can come up with a better title than that! The good thing is though, I trust the writers and directors for this upcoming Jurassic Park movie. Most of the time if you have an excellent writing staff the movie is at least a decent viewing experience.

I love the title. I love the fact that the movie is about a working dinosaur theme park so it's perfect, just like Disney World/SeaWorld/etc.

Because Universal/IOA aren't full day parks in the off-season. They have x amount of employees who they only want to pay y amount of money for z amount of hours. They aren't gonna start paying people for overtime or paying for new work shifts when people can easily get their money's worth in the eight to nine hours Universal gives you to play.

Disney considers a 'good day' one in which the guests can do 8 attractions. At this time of year, you can easily bang out both parks at Universal. No extra hours needed.

Why operate 9-6 instead of 12-9? Because then the park has to pay for lights, lose money that could be made at Citywalk, and risk having people not eat lunch at the parks, which would suck because lunchtime is the park's biggest money maker.

Basically, don't count on Universal parks being open super late anytime soon. At MK, the crowds justify the hours. It sees a tonnn more people than IOA, it's the number one theme park in the world for God's sake and is comparable to Paris in terms of the sheer number of tourists it sees.

Yeah......that's all well and good but "getting your money's worth" is very subjective. With what theme parks are now charging for admission they owe it to their CUSTOMERS to be open later and more hours. Now if they want to knock off $20 from the price of admission for closing at 6:00pm.......then I wouldn't have a problem with that. One of Universal's parks should be open until at least 9:00pm all the time.....period. I always find it amazing how many people are actually willing to get screwed over by corporations........how much money they are willing to dish out for so little in return.

*sigh*

Ok, I am going to confess that, although I have been to IOA hundreds of times, I have never ridden Dudley or Popeye. Walking around soaked is just not my thing.

Despite having an AP in 2011, I've also never ridden these two. But after seeing Golden Ticket awarding Dudley "Best Water Ride" I feel like I will this weekend!

Regarding the hours, I also hope they start going later as attendance grows. At least one of the parks should stay open until ten or later. Theme parks are such a greater experience at night. Hopefully the IoA night show rumors are a good indication.

 Huh... Imagine that. Those Golden Tickets kinda loose a little credit on that call in my book lol. But it is a really fun ride, you just kinda need to squint your eyes really hard when looking at the sets to make them look, well, um, decent. But seriously, the ride is awesome and the drop is a blast. Just those dang sets and animatronics!! Give it a try! And as many have said before. Popeyes is the perfect rapids ride.

What are you talking about? Nine hours is plenty of time at Universal during this time of year, and you can easily get more done from 9-6 in September than 9-11 in December...in fact by your logic Universal should give discounts on peak day admission, since that's when lines are 90+ minutes and its harder to squeeze in a full day.

Everyone is so excited about Universals rapid expansion yet fails to see that Universal is a business and needs to turn a profit to let things happen. Wanna knock $20 off admission for no good reason? Say goodbye to the new JP expansion, or at leash the one that's being planned now. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

If Universal wants to be a world class destination theme park resort, they need to have their parks open later for their resort guests that pay good money and travel long distances to visit the parks.

i seem to recall being shot down when i suggested they would only expand jurassic park if they had a new movie to hype it up with...

and yeah, those early closes are insulting. they have gorgeous lighting around the parks, they ought to use it!

It really is a joke. Just because "you can easily get everything done" doesn't negate the fact that some people would like to spend more of their time in the parks. It's more of an opinion than anything. Not everyone gets to the park at opening too.

The movie and expansion are happy coincidences. Not dependent on one another.

two big investments into an aging franchise in the same year, with multiple years worth of development cycle, is "happy coincidence" and not intentional strategy?

*just busting your chops btw, it's good to have a counterpoint!

I strongly agree . As a tourist that stays many days on site, and that's the customer universal wants, we do not hurry through the parks. We enjoy the ambiance of Universal and would greatly appreciate more evening hours. And as the parks attract more attendance, there's a need to spread the crowd over more hours so the parks do not get obnoxiously over crowded. I'm glad to see that the off season hours have steadily increased the last three years, and I would imagine they will increase even more so when Diagon opens next year. More hours are good show and I think Universal is realizing that. You need to spend money to make money, and yes, Universal gets it.

The expansion was moving along independent of the movie, which was originally scheduled for a 2014 release.

Not to mention that, as far as we know right now, the new planned attractions won't have any tie-ins with IV.

I understand that the two productions are happening independently of each other, and that they would probably green light either one just by itself, but it's too much coincidence to think that no one from their creative teams got together and said "man, if we could time these close together..."

Jungleskip, your facts are straight, but there were always cards on the table for a Jurassic Park IV AND for an expansion of their single biggest (talking land mass) island; why would the two groups not collaborate at least in terms of timing? Supposing the film had released in 2014, that would still get the hype train rolling.

"I don't get that. Why...why would Hammond send two teams?"

The attendance they see during the off-season doesnt justify longer hours. Its the law of diminishing returns. X amount of people have to spend enough money to offset the cost of having longer operating hours. But the park only hosts y amount of guests. Universal knows what theyre doing. You also have to factor in the amount of employees available in the off-season, which again, have shifts that offset the costs of what guests spend in the off-season. Longer/more shifts means spending more money which Universal figures will not get re-couped.

Also, CityWalk is a huge moneymaker...getting drunk in a club is much more feasible than doing so in a theme park. Not only does Universal know this but people seem to enjoy that concept--last winter the park got noticeably more empty when it got dark, because people wanted to party, see movies, etc. and were tired of the parks.

Until Universal begins seeing significant attendance increases (which it very well may when DA opens), the park hours will remain short(er). And even after Diagon, theres no promise off-season will be busier enough to justify longer hours.
