I'm liking the Shire idea. It's the perfect amount of Kid appeal while still dragging in adults in droves. Make the rides very kid friendly (ie. Dark rides, a carnival to celebrate Bilbo's birthday) and you have yourself a real winner. The meat and potatoes "thrill" portion would wind up in IOA.

All of the franchises mentioned otherwise are merely ok. They can't compete with the massive amount of kids IP Disney has. But... the Hobbit... that's something to get excited about.

If they really, really get blow-your-mind levels of crazy: they can theoretically connect both lands in IOA and USF with the existing river, creating another Hogwarts Express type transportation ride.

They already said it is not as big as HP... And personally I believe LOTR is bigger. So def. not that for KZ

I have no clue what they may be planning. I think one thing that helps an IP (especially one that works in a theme park) is that it is based around something that will capture imagination (in youth) and a connection to adults (that help them recall their youth via their children's eyes)...or maybe folks that never grow up when it comes to an active imagination.

So topics like dinosaurs, wizards, aliens, space, cars, planes...stuff like that seems to work IMHO.

Folks have mentioned Fast and Furious for cars...I could see Speed Racer working as well (even if no one knows of the show...I know I never watched it, but I could see it being timeless.

Folks are hinting that it is not Star Trek...how about the Jetsons for space? I think that would work in that area...

Sorry my ideas are from shows older than I (not that I am young), but I guess I am not hip enough to figure out what could fit.

I'd say on par. Really only HP, LOTR, Star Wars and kind of Star Trek fall on that upper tier.

Given time the Marvel cinematic universe may qualify.

I'm not convinced it'll be just a simple kids area. I think they've got to move away from strictly kids and go for something less discriminatory...something for families (I know, that word is abused so much in this thread). But instead of dinky little rides and playgrounds, Universal would be smart, IMO, to go with some full-scale attractions that have cross-generational appeal. Meaning a full overhaul would be less of a waste.

Bingo. People like to point out Universal's attractions that may scare off young children but they have an entire area that would practically keep anyone over the age of 5 away. Family is an overused word, but attractions that kids and adults can enjoy are better for the park than things aimed at toddlers like Barney and Curious George.

Definitely. Family is the way to go; not just specifically appealing to kids. Futurama and Minions have things that appeal across different generations, but whether they use either of those, whatever they go with, that's definitely what they gotta be aiming for: appealing to a wide range of people (= family) and something that has merch, as well as unique food and beverage potential.

Another interesting possibility, for sure. I've been hoping it makes its way to UOR to appeal to the sci-fi fans, since Star Wars has been taken by Disney.

That's not necessarily true. They won't be agreeing or disagreeing with anything we say, regardless. All we're doing right now is speculating, as we typically do. Just, now we have two more tips to add into the mix: the latest rumor is an animated and established IP.

Would like to add one more we must focus on.

Dont expect it to be kid oriented... Think something the whole family can enjoy.

I think this might be a red herring. Something like LOTR AND Hobbit or Last Air Bender AND Legend of Korra.

I love Avatar: The Last Airbender! So much! I hate how they butchered it with that live-action movie  Hopefully one day they will do the franchise justice. I haven't seen Korra yet, but what I've glimpsed didn't really appeal to me quite like Ang's story.

Nintendo?... kid friendly with family appeal as well, could link with the expansion pad well, and fits with Springfield's cartoony vibe.

Of course, I can't picture what the property is if you exclude DreamWorks and Nickelodeon

Sony Animation would be odd and I would rather see Shrek or Blue Man Group demoed for SSFL than KidZone. Too much space for just a carnival

I actually like the idea of tearing out Shrek for SSFL. That and add some of those DM facades in Hollywood to the Orlando version.

I agree wholeheartedly. Disaster is the ONLY ride that I don't enjoy myself on at Universal. I'd rather go on Shrek over and over again than have to wait for 30 minutes to actually go on the ride that is boring as all hell.

Woah. I must have missed when all those were hinted. I'm going to figure this sucker out now lol For now just throwing this out there, just like I did with Ubisoft: Maybe one of these games/movies? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Enix I'm just spit balling to get the brain juices flowing. Hmm Sesame Street, Looney Tunes, Nickelodeon Cartoons? Scooby Doo? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? Lego Movie? lol even though there's a LEGOLAND. But it sure does fit all those clues. I'm literally just bored Googleing stuff.

The wizard of Oz? It has been done in many forms and it has a Wicked show that is kind of another IP. There was once an amazing proposition to make a huge theme park from this franchise. The IP is in the public domain.

Or a Jules Verne land, steam punk, and lots of books to pick and chose from with stuff that could be cool to the whole family.

Note that the original Wizard of Oz is in Public Domain, Wicked and some other variations are not. There was an Oz theme park in Vegas, as part of the MGM Grand, but it is no longer there.
