What!?! Next you're gonna tell me Thunder in Paradise wasn't good TV.

Let's not kid ourselves, Rivers of Light is a much larger production than this. All I'm saying is that for as big of a park as USF is, it deserves something that's complimentary of that. Now if they had done those fountains with more pyro, fire, and some live action "Dynamite Nights" stuff I think I'd be singing a different tune.
RoL = Meh

Pretty much. They aren't used like in World of Color where the water helps manipulate what the laser can do and vice-versa.
The thing with lasers outside is that if there is no end point to the beam you have to get FAA clearance so the aircraft in the area are aware of them. That approval is easy to get on a temporary basis for a concert or festival but when you're talking about a nightly show it's not feasible. My guess is the trees are not considered complete coverage like the Little Mermaid show building is for world of color. Therefore it remains mostly water level. That would be my guess.

Yes, I always thought it was funny how every time they do IllumiNations they have to call the airport

They could install termination plates around the lagoon to absorb the lasers. While not necessarily expensive it is vastly time consuming especially the farther away you get. Imagine 3+ guys on a radio going through every single animation and sequence adjusting poles with plates on the end, trying to hit a point with a 2.5inch beam from 150 yards away...

That's exactly why the sport is no longer a part of the Olympics...super boring

So this is apparently something that happened.

From @Drew

It's like that every night. Takes about 10-15 minutes for everyone to clear.

I would credit the show, but it's most definitely the fact that it has a designated viewing area that it's so popular. If CineSpec was set up to be viewed from this angle and this angle only and had a tiered viewing angle, it likely would've kept people around longer as well. The issue with CineSpec was that there was no indication that a show was going to happen (they open Central Park at 8:00 now to get a spot). There was no clear idea of where the "best" spot to view it was from (not a problem anymore because there's a viewing area).

I could go on and on. Sure the show is an improvement over CineSpec, but it isn't so much better that all of a sudden people are willing to stay for a nighttime show. No, people EXPECT a nighttime show in Orlando. All 7 Orlando parks have a form of one currently. Also, UORs attendance has gone up by many millions per year since CineSpec debuted in 2012 and their demographics have changed a lot. People simply expect a show to cap their night when they go to a theme park in Orlando and now USF is finally giving them one.

For those wondering what the awesome stuff the lasers do for WoC here's examples

It does add a lot to the show and is pretty awesome. It might be better in person but I wish CineCel used the colored spot lights more.

My favourites are at opening with the fountains hitting them slightly making these dots mid air, and the Wall-E galaxy swirls.

A question for you guys. I was just on the Universal site and I checked the times/dates for this show. Much to my dismay the only dates listed were July 1st to July 31st. I'm visiting Universal ( Portofino) in a couple of weeks and I was really looking forward to seeing the show. Do you guys think they actually end the show on July 31st or will it continue through August? I can not switch dates because of my kids (internships, camps, sports....).

The show is scheduled for August (maybe not publicly, but it is scheduled). August goes down to 9:00PM closures from the 10PM closures that July saw.

Cinematic Celebration is currently scheduled to start at 9:00 PM Wed-Sat this week. I assume it will follow that schedule through Labor Day weekend. It will probably go on hiatus after that until sometime in November after HHN ends.

Has there been any talk of adding/changing anything in the show for the holiday season? Or would it make more sense to remain the same show all year?

I would be surprised if they don't make a Holiday version.

The show was made for scenes to be added or replaced - for example, I can easily see them taking out an animated movie and replacing it with a Grinch spot. It not only would fit the holiday, but it would also serve as promo for Illumination's release of the film this fall.
