They'll certainly need one if they ever get the land across Kirkman.

They could really do something neat for the long-run benefit of the resort. I just hope they stay away from buses.

See, that's what I'm afraid of.
They have such a good system with the boats, seems less efficient to introduce a larger bus system.

I know you didn't, that's why we like you.

It would speak volumes if Universal implemented a second means of intra-resort transportation without buses, and Disney is still running the Mark VIs to 15% of the overall WDW property.

IMO, During the busy times of the day, especially during peak seasons, the Hotel would be to large for everyone to use the boats. Since it is the furthest out all the Hotels, everyone will need transportation to the parks, and there would be very few walkers. I really don't think the boats could handle the crowds without long waits or adding many more boats to the rotation..

Yeah I suppose with their current boats it would be too much...
And what hatetofly said sounds intriguing...
What are they planning? A fleet of pedicabs? These things?
Maybe since they're already building one elevated tram-like thing, they could slap another one up along Hollywood Way.

Not more moving sidewalks I hope.

From my understanding Universal is looking at Disney's transportation system right now with great interest. But not like you would expect. You see they realize there will be a need for a reliable yet economical form of public transportation. One that wouldn't require a half dozen transfers in some cases. They see the conundrum Disney has put themselves in with there horrendously unreliable Monorail system as well as there aging and expensive to maintain and run bus system. We may not see Universals final form of public transport for another 5-7 years. Of course by then who knows where the resort will be and what blue sky projects will be under construction or nearing completion. Any of these possible projects could be in Universal Orlando's future and would require a major transportation system.

- Third Gate
- Water Park
- Fifth Resort
- Third Parking Structure
- New Entertainment and Shopping District.

And this list goes on...

Is that an actual option? Is that something they've attempted? I know quite a bit about Universal Orlando, but I've never heard anything about this or considered that possibility. Upon looking at it on a map, all that land would be great! There is a good bit of dead space over there (if I remember correctly - I stayed at the Holiday Inn years ago) and so it might be easy to buy up?

What kind of transportation system would be implemented? Possibly something that's not on the market right now? I've seen concepts of hybrid monorail/bus systems...Very excited for the bright future that's ahead for Universal!

Why not extend the lagoon and use the boats for Cabana??? Like wouldnt that make the most sense?

In between the RP and the CBBR there's a road, a huge plot of land, and then major road. I don't think extending the lagoon is a possibility.
Check it out: https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=28.466447,-81.468751&spn=0.011035,0.01929&gl=us&t=h&z=16

Here's a reason it would be best to extend the lagoon:

Consistency. Consistency is something I value a ton. In my opinion, it would be best for Universal to extend the lagoon for guests at Cabana Bay. While it is expensive and could shut down a road (unless there's another option I'm just not seeing on a map), it would keep guests from getting confused and everyone will see it as being really convenient. Just because this is sort of a value resort doesn't mean the guests staying there shouldn't be able to ride boats to the parks and City Walk. -- That's my reasoning, though, I can see both sides of the argument.

Here's a reason they won't extend the lagoon:

Capacity. I believe it's been stated that Cabana Bay will have more rooms than any other Universal Onsite Hotel (please correct me if I'm wrong). Because of this and the pricing, more guests will be staying at Cabana Bay than any of the other on site hotels. Because Cabana Bay will be the farthest away, and because there will be more guests traveling from Cabana Bay to the parks, then it will take a lot of time to transport guests, therefore testing their patience. It also means that Universal will have to spend more for fuel, and possibly buy another boat and hire more drivers. Or, they could replace the boats with a fleet that has a higher capacity.

Extending the lagoon is expensive - but in the long run, Universal will gather more expenses by having a lagoon.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Cabana Bay transportation will either rely on busses or some other form of mass transit that will be really unique. Hopefully, Universal will find a way to make it extremely clear to guests that the boats won't take some of them to their hotel.
