I love how people are setting now

The last two Captain America movies were fire...my god what happened to the MCU?

Like just take a break and make great films again...like my god why is it so hard to do what you used to?

I know DD wont be this but kinda thank god for DD taking it serious and wanting to make the best story possible over more crap that we call good to be nice but is just another movie and without the ties to the MCU would be ignored

Like....at least for me I loved Ironaman and really liked Captain 1 and Avengers 1 holds up very well, Winter Soilder and GOTG are great/amazing and Antman while not as amazing as it should be because they let go of Edgar Wright is still really good and funny and even Ultron at this point looks great compared to what we are getting now from the MCU.
Then look at phase 3....Ant man 2 was the only meh kinda film the rest were good to amazing. I just can't with the excuses MCU has lots it touch if we are fine with a Cap film at this moment being just a dumb action film

The movie was OKAY. I had a lot of fun with it (Red Hulk scenes are awesome) but it's lacking of any substance. By the end it kinda felt like nothing really happened. If you go into it with low expectations you can enjoy this. Just don't expect a masterpiece or anything on the level of the last three Cap films. It sucks because Anthony Mackie's first film as Cap should've been WAYYYYYYY better than this. Dude was sidelined in his own movie that's basically an Incredible Hulk sequel without Hulk. One review I read of this film said it shouldve been retitled Captain America: Loose Ends and I completely agree. Bummer. At least it was fun!

This was a serviceable if boring film. What I will give this movie credit for that I can’t give any movie post-endgame credit for so far is that this movie actually put in work to finally lay the groundwork for where we are going in the MCU as the Avengers movies approach.

I don't think the movie is awful or anything and I somewhat agree with you (I didn't find it boring imo), but Anthony Mackie deserved a way better first movie as Cap. It's sad that this is what we got. Hopefully they make up for it in Avengers Doomsday/Secret wars, which he's rumored to be the leads of.

I liked it. It's not awful, but not groundbreaking. I did enjoy that it felt like it was its own film instead of a Marvel by-the-numbers one with quips and gratuitous cameos; and finally, we move the story truly forward.

Some of the dialogue was cringe, and CGI was spotty.

I'm just really disappointed about them cutting out Diamondback. I'm not really familiar with her character, but she seems cool. I was just really excited for the actress Rosa Salazar. She's amazing and would've improved the movie for me imo. Hopefully they bring her back for another mcu project at some point

If you like Salazar, and can tolerate some serious, serious weirdness, the show BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOR is a good showcase for her.

I've seen that show already, I agree with you that it was weird lol. I really enjoyed it though!

So it’s definitely bottom tier MCU for me, even a significant downgrade from Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

General thoughts….

• Harrison Ford was easily the standout in the film. He took pretty rudimentary material and definitely gave it some gravitas.
• Anthony Mackie just doesn’t hit the same as a leader or as the new Captain America. He’s not a bad actor. He can do the noble speech thing well. But he comes off as too smug when he tries to be playful, almost like being too much of a “bro” for lack of a better term. I couldn’t envision him as the leader of the Avengers when Steve passed the mantle, and this movie did nothing to assure me.
• And this leads me to the question of him not taking the serum. The man is not super human, yet he flies like 600 mph and slams down on his legs, gets hurled through cars, walls and concrete and keeps fighting. At least Iron Man was covered head to toe in armor. This Cap’s entire head is exposed most of the time. So my suspension of disbelief started to get pretty strained, especially at the end of the movie. I’m okay if you decide to have him be like Black Widow or Hawkeye, but you can’t have this man fight 1-on-1 against the Red Hulk and live to tell about it.
• Please never put the new Falcon guy in the next Avengers movies. My God, the man is like a 10 year old kid who looks up to you, never shuts up, tells stupid jokes and follows you everywhere.
• I actually thought there was a genuinely intriguing plot hidden somewhere in this film. It’s so obvious it was toyed with too many times, because the big climactic set piece happens at the midway point.

I appreciate the movie did try to start tying some loose ends together in the MCU, but I still am losing significant faith in the direction of this franchise. We’re only a little over a year out from the next Avengers film and there’s been almost zero build up for it.
