Then I could finally afford a Disney vacation! :rimshot:

Seriously though, this could be a great shot in the arm to prompt spending domestically vs direct drops of cash or bailouts. Depending on how the program works, people financial advisors may say it's beneficial to splurge on a vacation.

OMG

I'd soooooo be down for this. It would get me to travel so much (obviously trying to be as safe as possible)
But man I'd love to visit Florida, hopefully it last for a little because would like to see WDW after some more of the new rides are added

I’d rather $100b (or whatever number) go to citizens to spend and get something in return vs to the corporations themselves.
Maybe they should have done this with the airlines instead...

The only downside is none of these are tangible goods and they are only luxury items. And when the country is trillions in debt, should we be spending on luxury items? If I was $50k in debt, id hope I still wasn’t getting designer clothes and manicures. But alas, the government doesn’t live in the reality that we have to.

I’m being a bit superfluous, because some of this money will funnel back to employees and hirings; which create a larger tax base, etc.

I agree, but if we are getting nothing or this...I choose this. Because at least people can benefit from it, maybe it won't solve every issue but would get many to spend a lot of money.

First they pay not to work then they pay to go on vacation? smh

The only increase to the tax base is in hirings; employees aren’t going to be getting any higher wages or bonuses because more people are vacationing.

The bigger issue is that this doesn’t help people travel now. If they don’t have the money to pay for flights, hotels, etc this year, giving them a tax credit next year is irrelevant. This is a tax credit for a segment of the population that has the means to travel, which arguably implies they don’t actually “need” the credit.

What it is is socialism for the rich in order to help prop up corporations.

The middle to upper class gets extra money to use for vacations to go to places like WDW and UOR, where lower income workers are stuck working there bc even with a tax credit, if that credit is only good for vacations, then the lower-class has to stay home as they won't be able to afford to leave their job for an extended period of time because someone's gotta pay for that apartment.

This sounds poorly thought out and tbh, we'd be better off handing everyone out a couple thousand and just leaving it at that if we're giving out money. The lower class will need that and it will go right back into the economy and the middle/upper class can still use the money that they didn't need to go on vacations, without all the strings attached to the tax credit about it only being used for tourism.

While I don't disagree with the fundamentals of whats being said, one consideration is tax credit vs straight payment. A straight payment comes off the books right now. A tax credit doesn't come off the books till next year. Deferred payment so to speak for the government. It also gets money circulating that is sitting in people's bank accounts and gets them spending it on things they might not have otherwise. Giving someone who is worried about the economy and is hoarding cash, more cash, just has them hoard more. This gives them incentive to spend cash. Even if they see it as a free vacation, they will spend more on the trip than they would have otherwise. Also, depending on the wording on the plan, if it gives tax credits for restaurant spending, that helps a lot more people than just vacationers.

Not saying there aren't issues with the plan, just that there's more to it than giving rich people free vacations.

No! Not my Cosmopolitan! Ugh. I had a feeling when they sent me that email announcing their reopening it was going to lead to this. For shame..

Here is his LA Times article describing the scene in Las Vegas.

I was looking at flights to Vegas and New York for September, it is ridiculous how cheap it is. I got an amazing deal staying at the Bellgaio last year and it's more than half the price for this year.

As tempting as it is, I think booking anything would be a liability just now.

I have to agree there! We stayed at the Cosmo last year and were upgraded to a suite which was great. They emailed me once they announced their opening date and included an offer of like 20% off or something coupled with a $50 pool credit. I actually have a room booked there for a concert this fall at the T-Mobile Arena but that will be cancelled any day now I'm sure.

My guess is the vacation destinations suffering for attendance are the ones requiring masks be worn. People that are safety covid 19 conscious, like Teebin & me, probably are going to, for the most part, avoid large crowds regardless of whether masks are worn or not, or there's severe safety precautions.I wouldn't go to any large crowded event at this point in time. Mask requirements are probably greatly limiting the people that will attend, because the people that 'will attend large crowd events', are not particularly concerned about contracting the virus, thus they're turned off by having to wear a mask, especially in the hot summer heat..........I feel very safe in my area of the country since there have been very few cases of community spread, mostly nursing homes here. So I feel completely safe in the general community. But if they were to allow attendance at sporting events, or one of the county fairs opened, there is no way I would attend a crowded event like that. For that same reason I will not be attending Kennywood Park this season, even though it's only minutes away from my home, masks or no masks.

(shhh... everyone, MD thinks that all the other places are nursing homes and the place that he lives in is his actual private residence and grounds.... don’t say anything... he seems at piece with his reality. It’s sweet that he thinks the nurse who comes in is his girlfriend.)

Nursing homes with trips to Orlando sounds like an excellent business idea.

I don't think this is quite 6ft.

I am almost bored to tears looking at these social distancing floor vinyls while babysitting a printer. I spent most of last week printing them, 5 hours today, probably 15 hours over the coming weekend and potentially another 20 hours over the early course of next week if what I think is going to come in comes in.

It's got to be tough knowing people are going to 'walk all over your hard work'... ;)

They’re only rated for 6 months, I’d be surprised if they last that long and hopefully won’t need to. The U.K. government is considering changing the distance from 2 metres to 1 metre so that might result in double sales.

I’ll be going cross eyed watching them print.
