Yeah, at this point cut outs make me think of Six Flags:

Any move they make to further delineate themselves from the DC license wasting Six Flags the better as far as I am concerned.

But the park opened in 1999, virtually the 21st century.

Still, the visual representation of the land is derived largely from Marvel comics and cartoon shows in the early to mid 1990s, which were still a nostalgic base for people in 1999. At this point it's a poor representation of Marvel comics, television, and film. I don't see any way it sticks around if Marvel okays a redo.

How did this topic come up anyway? Like what spurred this speculation in the first place? If Universal was to really go through with a Marvel upgrade (which I guess would have to be anchored with a new ride) why would they do it as the Marvel train is losing steam? This year or the next would have been the best time to capitalize on the success of this stuff right? I mean, The Avengers 3 is the last one right? It doesn't make sense to me that they would be bringing back an old IP like King Kong and sit on Marvel while the latter is at the height of its popularity.

The third Avengers movie is not necessarily the final one, just the final one that we know about and that is not even being seen until 2019.

Anyways, the Marvel brand does not seem to be losing any steam given the performance of both Guardians of the Galaxy and the Daredevil Netflix series.

The Marvel train is losing steam? The Avengers is going to make 1.5+ billion dollars in the next month. Avengers 3 Part 1 doesn't come out until 2018 (presumably when a new ride could open), and part 2 comes out in 2019. Neither is planned to be the last, as more Marvel movies are scheduled after that. Even then, the same could have been said about Harry Potter. WWoHP 1 opened as the movies were winding down, and 2 opened after they were long over.

As for why it's coming when it is, there were no doubt negotiation and back and forths to go through. Things like this don't happen overnight.

I should have clarified...it's at the peak of its popularity now, no doubt. But like you said, these things dont happen overnight. In the time it takes to get these big new rides going, who knows where the IP will stand in terms of popularity. Harry Potter is different because they didnt own the rights until the series was already winding down. But this thread has been very reassuring that making Marvel attractions is pretty painless for Universal to do given their contract. So why wait when its already at their fingertips? I'm just curious as to what started this sudden burst of speculation in this thread. If they were to make new Marvel stuff, I feel like they should've started construction a while ago and aimed to open it within the next couple of years.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I'm not sure "painless" is the right word to use. You still have to impress the people who run the IP, and that takes time. Maybe they didn't get to work on designs until The Avengers really took off in 2012. Give it, let's say 2 years to come up with a concept everyone at Marvel/Disney and Universal agree is the one to go with, then another year to make it a financial possibility and get the go ahead from Comcast brass, and here we are in 2015 with work rumored to start at the end of the year, supposedly. Granted that's a lot of speculation, but I have to figure this, if it is happening, has been a work in progress for quite sometime, and they finally have the go ahead.

Ahhh so that makes sense then. Not worth getting into negotiations until the brand proved valuable.

Again, most of that (and the end of this post) is speculation on my part. Remember, up until Comcast came in the parks were in a holding period creatively for the most part. Outside of WWoHP, which was kind of a last ditch effort to make the parks attractive for a prospective buyer, most of their projects were rethemes of old attractions. Then Potter hits, Comcast comes in during 2011, and the money starts rolling for projects. So it makes sense that Creative wasn't ready to capitalize on the booming success of Marvel for a while.

We'll see. Maybe I'm (and the little info I've gotten) is completely wrong and all that's happening is a simple refurb of Hulk and Doom. If so I'll eat my crow. But I guess I'm firmly in the "big things are on the way" camp here.

I curious what special beverages we could get. Gamma Radiation and Aether are obvious choices, but what else?

Shame that the X-Men are one of the groups on the outs with Marvel. imagine if they built a Hellfire Club bar or something of the like.

Yeah, they could package it as a gold ceramic fist and have slots on the gauntlet for where you could place each "infinity stone gem" (the drinks in shot form)

C'mon! You know you would buy it!

Maybe Josie's Bar from Daredevil might be a fun inclusion.

Slightly unrelated, but the boy is a huge fan of Deadpool and is looking forward to the upcoming movie. When I was showing him maps of IOA (he's never been to Universal, but knew enough about the Studios to assume IOA would be similiar--had to correct that straightaway) and told him about MSHI, he got all excited and was hoping there was something themed to Deadpool there. He was very sad--in a manly way, of course--when I told him there wasn't. And probably won't be, and he had to agree with the logic. I'm not all that clear on how popular the character is in the universe, but I'm thinking the merc with the mouth probably wouldn't fit in with Universal/Marvel's current theme park plans. XD

I'd spend money there, for sure. XD Something like that would be a lot of fun.

Deadpool is a pretty popular character, but because of a few reasons, (the relationship with FOX and MARVEL being one of the key factors if Universal decides to update the island with the MCU iteration of the characters) he most likely won't ever appear in the parks unfortunately. At the beginning of April, MARVEL actually killed him off in the comics in Death of Deadpool issue #45 Vol. 3 On fact, every character that MARVEL doesn't own the film rights to is dying, including The Fantastic 4 and Wolverine (he died last year.) Deadpool's comics weren't made for younger audiences so that could be another factor. However, you can find some Deadpool merchandise in the comicbook store ranging from T-shirts to mugs, etc. in MARVEL SUPERHERO ISLAND. I hope this helps!

Wow I guess I'm the only one that's a fan of the cutouts and 90s'ish look of the island.
