Excuse me while I LOL SO HARD.
Who gives a crap if it doesn't have a tangible story? Tangible stories are the most overrated part of today's themed attractions. And HM is "fine"? Just fine? Pirates and Mansion are still two of the STANDARD bearers for themed entertainment decades after they opened.
Saying Universal would be foolish to build a ride on the level of them is possibly the dumbest thing I have EVER read on a forum, which is saying something.
Because Universal sells itself on being a theme park. Not an amusement park. A THEME park. What is the biggest difference between Disney and Universal rides other than the thrill level? The story. At Universal you are part of the story, you are flying with Harry, volunteer SCOOP reporters, going on Popeye's cruise, becoming a minion....at Disney you're just watching a story unfold 9 out of 10 times. e.g Pirates has no story, its just a montage. Universal prides itself on stories and the guest being part of them, take that away and you're just Six Flags with more money.
Depends which level you are looking at. Thrill? Diversity? You expect that thing at Disney. If you opened an omnimover at Universal you'd be left expecting more. Haunted Mansion was taking the ride system from Adventure Thru Inner Space and changing the theme. It also suits Disney well. Disney has 5 omnimover attractions in Florida alone.
If you're talking legacy, you can't build something that's instantly a legacy.
Um... Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are "uncreative"? What in the... Those two rides have stood the test of time and are still regarded as two of the best rides in existence. It's just incredible that you would say such a thing. Maybe you should head out to Disneyland and ride their twice as long and far more intimate Pirates of the Caribbean. Unless you've already ridden it, then I don't know what else to say. I just cannot see anyone calling those two attractions "uncreative". It's just blasphemous to be honest.
And Pirates of the Caribbean has no tangible story? Have you ridden Forbidden Journey? I love FJ to death, but it really lacks in the "story department". A tangible story is honestly not necessary in helping make an attraction great.
I mean, I can see where you're coming from. The ride systems ARE dated for those two attractions, but they are certainly not uncreative by any means.
Pirates of the Caribbean is a stock boat adventure. It has about as much story as Living with the Land. I don't see how a boat adventure through random dioramas is creative. It certainly skipped out on the coherency department. I most ride it to get some Air Conditioning.
HPFJ has major plot issues. I will agree with that. But it tries. One might say that it almost tries TOO hard and that's the problem with it. That's still better than not trying. And no story is not the Universal Way.
Oh no. I got it. But the rest was as ridiculous as the first paragraph.
Saying that Universal would be dumb to build those kind of rides is like saying Disney would be dumb to build a ride like Spider-man or Forbidden Journey. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
That again depends on "kind" of rides. I have no problem with building family rides as long as they're absolutely nothing like an omnimover or a do nothing boat ride. I think the 5 we have in Florida meets the quota.
Conversation is conversation my friend.
And no thats not what we're saying. There was a mixup between people feeling like some were saying Uni should cross into the realm of Disney and be more like Disney. etc...But no I would love highly immersive trackless dark rides or flumes
I'll take either. As long as some work and Creative spin is put on it. I trust UC to not mess up what they've been doing and to make their rides interesting.
As would I. Be nice to see what UNIVERSAL can pull out of their hats if they went for something like An Antarctica or BigThunderMountainRailraod.
In My Opinion. IOA Should Have a Kidzzone section as well. Suess land is as close as IOA has to a kidzzone but it's not.
What I'm saying is if Kidzzone can withhold being opened all year why not make a land dedicated specifically for children just like kidzzone, in IOA instead of another ride? I'd like to see the kids having a play place in both parks.
IoA has Seuss, Camp Jurassic (which as a 20 year old, I still like), and Me Ship the Olive. If we exclude the last one because its a PoS, that's still more than USF. The best part about Seuss is it has a common theme and isn't just a mashup of different kid-centric brands. I really hope that when they redo Kidzone they retitle it as something else, move the ET entrance to Hollywood, bulldoze Animal Actors, and unite the land with some common theme or property. Its really absurd that the rest of the park can be generic areas like NY, SF, Production Central, World Fair, and then they cheap out on a theme and just call it Kidzone.
