we tried to eat here for lunch, but they didn't start serving until 4 PM or something close to that. My wife had some flan desert that she loved from the shake area:

Woah, didn't realize that Toothsome hasn't had a grand opening yet! Has anybody seen anything considerably different since softs began?

Wow, that's something!

I was going to come on here to say that I can't fathom how much this place is bringing in. We did eat there tonight (or yesterday I guess). Really enjoyed it, but it was a bit stressful getting in.

We were told 40 to 50 minutes. That sort of set an expectation for me. I wanted to bail after waiting an hour, but my wife figured we were too close to give up at that point.

They really need to communicate and or organize their lines. I mean no one knew which line was for shakes, which line was to put your name on the list, or which line was for folks who were texted that their table was ready. All three were just as long. I just think they could control how many people they text for their table...it got a little ugly waiting to be seated while others would just cut in for they were finally texted...

So our 40 minute wait was really an hour and a half, but things got much better when we were finally seated, but man, that shop and getting to the restaurant was a total zoo on SAT night (at least starting around 4:45 pm).

Mercy, some of you people are so patient. I would have turned and gone to Burger King. When desperate, I eat to live.

I definitely agree with Frank, was there with the boyfriend yesterday and while the waits were crazy, we didn't know where the line for the shakes started - people waiting for the actual restaurant, or worse, people just hanging out, blocked the view. So we thought there was a huge line till we finally started asking and discovered the roped off line...

Aside from that, we loved the atmosphere of the place and the simple variety of deserts offered is astounding. Absinthe is a cool touch - a rare but definitely steam punk suited touch, it adds another element to the theme. Met Penelope and the actress was great - hilarious, totally in character and honestly she had a better "british" accent than the Harry Potter actors in the parks.
Finally got our one brownie shake and I have to agree with some previous reviews - while tasty, the shakes could use something to thicken them up. I love the use of the brownie though, the desserts in the shake as well as on them definitely add to the richness.
Overall I will be back next time and buying some treat, without a doubt. By the way did everyone know the paper on some of those treats are edible? Thought that was a really cool touch! Will upload pics in a bit.

Yea, crowds and universal don't really mix well. They should have extra employees whose jobs are just making sure guests are in the appropriate lines. If Disney can have random people blowing bubbles, Universal can have employees creating order. Especially at a place that charges $12 for a shake. (The red velvet shake is life)

Universal has a tendency to put up signs to instill order. Disney has a tendency to put people. I think the latter works much better.

Odd, I was there yesterday too for dinner, and they had two employees outside directing guests to the appropriate lines/areas from what I saw. Not sure if they started this just later in the day though for the dinner rush.

The line for just shakes was fairly short at this point - the crowds were big but we went around 6ish. We were also not bothered by any of it - we had been interested in trying something here from the beginning of the day (we came in around noon and there was much more breathing room).
Overall very impressed, and I can't wait to try eating a meal here!

Patients at a theme park? Never! :-)

They had enough employees, but I think they get claustrophobic like the rest of us but they then seek the safety of the desk where they have their private space...it is kind of why some retail places are taking away counters and such.

Heck, they would send one of them off every 10 minutes or so to clean the glass on the revolving doors.

I think the one thing that really got me was just the guy that checked you in after you got a text. He had to know folks were queueing up to check in, a few minutes earlier he had told someone there was a line, but then he would just take whoever got to him first so a group that was texted last got in before folks who had been waiting over 10 minutes after being texted, it was just odd and the folks in line noticed it.

We knew there was a line for folks who had been texted and we tried to ask who was in it...my wife was asking folks and a few were like...we're in this line! My wife tried to tell them the line to their left was to put their name down...but they were all like,'I'm not moving until someone tells me otherwise...it was just odd...this was around 6:30...we put our name on the list a little before 5...oh well, the meal was great! (And the mocha old fashions made the pain go away quickly.)

We gave them another chance for lunch today. They did have a hostess greeting/directing people (but no where near the cluster like last night). They were dead on with their wait time guesstimate today and again we had a great meal....just that candy shop is tighter than the FJ places once you get around 30 people in there, again, this afternoon was fine, but last night was too much.....but I swear, UNI must have doubled their guest spend this month :-)

This a thousand times. Experienced exactly this on Friday. After being cut in front of twice in the "line" for the one person who could check people in, ended up seated at possibly the worst table in the place, which is in a far corner at the conjunction of the elevator, the bathrooms, some portion of the kitchen, and a drink/bussing station. With a lovely 36" clearance for all this traffic between our table and the wall. I also felt like I was seated closer to the person at the next table to my left than my wife across the table. I will refrain from forming any opinions at this time.

Don't let a short shake line fool you, it moves at a snail's pace and you still get a pager to wait for your actual shake after ordering. I'd estimate 10 people in line is a 30 minute total wait.

I did forget to mention the pager, and we were standing there cooling our heels for a while. I liked that I had Penelope stop and entertain us for a few minutes because it was a fair amount of time to wait for a single shake.
