Top 25 Horror Nights Houses - Orlando

I personally have M&M, Body Collectors, FvJ, and Insidious all above Halloween right now. It's crazy how good those houses are!

Also are you going to wait until right before HHN26 to edit the list or do it after this years event wraps up?

I've only been in Body Collectors and Insidious so far but I feel Halloween blows them both out of the water, as good as they are. Halloween was just a perfect representation of one of the best horror films ever made. It was my personal favorite HHN house I've been in.

I might get crap for bumping this older thread and I don't mean to step on anyone's toes, but reading through this got me thinking about my favorites. And after really thinking about it, I realized that I've personally experienced 87 different HHN houses over the past 16 years. So many great memories!

Anyway, I tried ranking them all and I ended up putting them into 5 tiers. There are 21 houses within my top 2 tiers, so I'm going to go with a top 21 list. I'm sure some will disagree, but here goes:

I missed Hellgate Prison--don't remember why, but it was when I was only doing one or two nights a year--but completely agree the other four are easily top 10 houses.

I remember it vividly. The line was cool. It had high gates and search lights looking for prisoners.. It really felt like you were going to enter a prison. It also had that big screen some houses have. I missed those and wished they put more of them at each house. The other thing that stood out was the acting was top notch and they were really intense. They also used foul language t0wards you like real prisoners. Things like "Im going to rape your @@@" Crazy stuff like that. Something I haven't seen since.

I really toyed with the idea of putting the Walking Dead from 26 as #25. Ultimately, because it was the 5th year, I couldn't let it pass. If that was the first, or even 2nd year of that franchise, it may have been even higher.

Interestingly, only 7 of my top 20 houses (35%) are non-Universal IPs.

This lines up well with what I would consider the optimal IP to Original split at the event. With 9 houses, I'd prefer they go with 6 original concepts and 3 IPs. They say hindsight is 20/20, but I feel like if Orlando had stuck with only using 3 IPs per year, they wouldn't have gone through so many of the popular horror properties so quickly and definitely would not have had to resort to re-using some of them so quickly. Just my two cents.

It's interesting, I've heard fairly mixed things about this house in recent years. Prior, people were raving about it. Given we've done "similarish" houses (Silver Screams, as one example), what did this house do that made it rank higher than comparable houses?

You mean the Scarecrow one? Haha.. yeah I didn't really care for Castle Vampyr (2004) either and thats a top house for many too. My ratings are generally based on my favorite sets, creativity and how much I like the story. Its all subjective though.

Here's my top 25! (I know I have some different ones that people put at the bottom, for instance Orfanage and the Walking Dead (HHN26), I thought they were really well done and scary!

A lot of this is based on how scary I thought they were with a combo of how well I thought the execution of the house was.
