Well, the appliances and machines would obviously be on the inside so heavy equipment wouldn't really help there, and the spoil pile was asphalt, so it was clearly dug outside. It seems almost inconceivable to me that they wouldn't have shut off valves for every building that is easily accessible in the event of a water leak. I guess what I'm saying is, it's unnecessary to cap stuff off before demolition if we're talking street level things. Fire suppression lines are the only thing I can think of that might require capping. Just trying to figure the order of all this like we all are. Guess my point was, digging at this juncture isn't the usual way things go.

But Transformers will require going below street level a bit. There needs to be pits dug for the elevators. So there's that.

Went back and peeked at the pics. That pile of stuff is from inside the building. While it has the gray coloring of asphalt, I guarantee you it is not asphalt. It is dirty sand and slabs of concrete. They are digging down to gas, electric, fire main that comes in from under the street to the nearest utility room inside the building.

Okay, here's how we've done it in the past. Especially in traffic areas. You go into the building, and strip out the interior plumbing. When you do this, you cut off your MPE stub outs, Mechanical, Electrical and plumbing on the interior of the building. If the electrical stuff is underground, as it appears it is, and the plumbing is always underground you only cap this off if there isn't going to be anything going back. You shut off your valves at the street, and then demo the building. Then if something needs to be capped underground, or rerouted you have a lot more space to lay things out and move your equipment around. When your new building is built, then you tie back in to the existing plumbing at the valve, and you're only having to hire pipe fitters to work on that section of pipe one time, as opposed to capping it, and then coming back later and tying into it. If you're digging pits for the elevators you would want as much space as possible for excavators to work. Granted, none of this gives us any insight into what is being built and in the grand scheme of things is pretty inconsequential. It was merely just a curiosity to someone who has spent a good bit of time doing fairly high profile construction.

Designing the Fear said he was told the building will be gone by tomorrow morning. Take it with a grain of salt, of course.

^^Teebin, Designing the Fear is a very reliable HHN/General Haunt enthusiast and updater. I know his name, but I'm not sure if he'd be too comfortable with me mentioning it here. I've had the honor of speaking with him on Facebook several times. If I'm not mistaken, he's also a member of this site as well, under a different user name.

Designing the Fear is a HHN update person. Saw on twitter that a worker outside of SS44 said the building would be coming down tonight.

And Whylightbulb is a play on the old Imagineering saying:

"If you asked an Imagineer where to put the light bulbs, he'd answer, 'Why does it have to be a lightbulb?'." Or something like that.

I'd say you'd have to be pretty lucky to not drop your camera for that. I think aerial shots would be the best bet.

User King_K. on here and on HNN made a great post pointing out that the floor area of SS44 was close to 30,000 sq. ft with the addition of the sidewalks by the BTTF train, and that Transformers was 60,000 sq. ft but Transformers is a 2 story building with a 30,000 sq. ft base.

On the note of Designing the Fear, the owner knows a fair amount about the industry but he's been wrong on things before, just like users on this website and this website it's self. Like any rumor, grain of salt.

No one here knows anything definite at this point. For more info on the other stuff you mentioned I would recommend scrolling back 4-5 pages and reading each post.

Maybe we would get a real NEST facade, unlike poor Hollywood.
