This could be a real game changer. If people actually pay for it, this could see a huge decrease of cinemas.

I think this might be a recovery effort for films already released....someone said it before, but the fear of pirating is probably too great to release all films as "pay-to-stream".

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but would Universal be open to the possibility of pushing back pass members' passes' expiration dates by the amount of days the park is closed due to COVID-19?

Universal Orlando

Scroll down to ”What about annual passes?” It states that passes will be extended by the number of days the parks are closed.

I like what Universal is doing with their movies, right move for right now.

I do worry for films from studios like Focus Features, or Searchlight, or A24, Neon, etc. They’re the top indie filmmaking studios (off the top of my head, IFC is another) and I worry about them getting in their releases this year. Unlike big studios who can afford a hit or two or three they really rely on the box office to have steady returns for future investments. I’d think at least one of these companies will do the same here for their spring/summer indie slate.

Use this time to learn a new skill. I've been buzzing my hair since early high school and I used to buzz my friends' hair through college. It's tricky at first, but took maybe a month to get the hang of it. Now I buzz my boys' hair and even cut my daughter's hair. Saves a ton of money. Wife won't let me touch her hair, though.

Does this apply for Hollywood, too? I hope so.

Disney Springs (Orlando) third party stores and restaurants are getting ready to close. Employees may not be paid, are being directed to government assistance, probably a per business basis.

The pirates will be out in full force. They don't like to pay for anything.

Yes because Jane Austen fans are known for their pirating ability.

the main film on that list that will likely get affected will be The Hunt, kids movies don’t get pirated at the level of other films and everyone who wanted to see invisible man in theatre has seen it and it already went making way more profit than expected.

people are already justifying the cost which bodes well for universal.

All movie theaters, gyms and casinos all closed in NY starting at 8pm tonight. All restaurants and bars are take out only. Everything else is capped at 50 people as per CDC.

Exactly. The Hunt probably loses money this way, but Invisible man can only make more money as it's already in the green. The reason I doubt we see this on a high scale is because movies cost so much to make these days and a movie typically costs $15 PER PERSON. Universal is charging $20 for one rental, which you can watch with however many people you want. Of course with social distancing going on, I guess they're betting on that not happening. Of course, the film will certainly get pirated, but them's the breaks. These are unprecedented times and they're at least trying.
