I am happy to have made it back to Orlando from New Jersey just before the storm really bares down on us. We lucked out that Wawa was still open on Central Florida Parkway when we got here at 7, so we gassed up both cars (just in case). Wawa was the ONLY thing still open at that time and it was jammed with tourists staying in the hotels stocking up on food and drinks.

If you notice during every major storm in the northeast, most Wawas always stays open. This pretty much guarantees every news station will park in front of Wawa for various on site reporting. It's good publicity and also useful for the emergency responders.

Yeah, between that and the free coffee for cops, Wawa does a community service and gets good PR.

My house just creaked from a wind gust. This is going to be a long night...

Haha. WFTV was in front of a Wawa earlier tonight talking about being one of the only places open and with gas.

And I filled up the live truck at a different Wawa. 7/11 was open, but no gas.

Hope everyone stays safe is taking the proper precautions. After dealing with Sandy a few years ago, I sympathize with you all. I posted earlier that Orlando is a second home and it truly is. I'll have you all in my thoughts tomorrow.

Good news! The storm, at present, is tracking further east than originally forecast, thereby decreasing its impact on the Orlando area, and regions further from the coast. Still a Category 4 slamming into East Coast though. Stay safe out there!

Orange county went under a curfew starting at 10PM tonight and won't be lifted until 7AM Saturday. You are subject to arrest if you are found in public areas until then.

I have heard this over and over again... from higher level employees, and I have heard it since 2004. On the other hand, I have heard near slave trade issues with Disney. I wish a news org would do an expose on this, something like 60 Minutes.

FWIW, I have friends who had shifts and are front line at Disney and being treated pretty well so far. Disney is using the MK Tunnels as a bunker and letting CMs stay the night if they want and free food from the cast cafeteria.

But yeah, Universal is much better than Disney when it comes to caring about employees. As far as verging on slavery... i'd say the only thing Disney does that verges on it is the College Program. You're the lowest of the low, you do the most work, and you get disrespected more than anyone else simply because you're on that program.

To be fair, plenty of people do internships/placement during a degree, and some don't even get paid in other industries. They are still given the crappy jobs to do!

I was somewhat going on the internationals that worked at Epcot. Their dorms used to be on Seven Dwarfs Lane off from 192 in Kissimmee. I believe the road is right next to the current Sam's Club as I recall. Keep in mind I am talking old WDW but I was mortified by the cattle like abuse Disney pulled with them. Sounded like Delores Umbridge enjoying all the young smiling faces and then torturing them. (a dramatic overstatement but there is some truth in it)

Probably... I would assume the villas are brand new construction compared to the dorms. An interesting piece of history, hmmm?

Yeah, they look new on Street view.

I'm always interested on the infrastructure etc of YesterYear, not just Theme Parks.

We stayed lucky as the eye was well off shore when it past by us. We only had tropical storm force winds, the rain has stopped for us, the wind is still strong.

But north of us , they still have a long way to go...heck, it looks like we are still under a tropical storm warning until 1 PM today.

I hope all stay safe!

Internationals are not kept there now, they are in with regular CPs over in Little Lake Bryan now. I do the exact area you are talking about though... I have some friends who live in complexes down that road.

I would wait until the winds calm to 30mph before I ventured outside... and even then... the power lines that may be down posing an invisible zap risk. And those are far more powerful than the power of the common power outlet in your home.

Yep, knew that. I was just relaying the trials of a Moroccan lad (20-25), a long time ago. Older neighbors had befriended him back then; had him over for dinner etc.

I just drove by Snow White Village a few weeks ago. They've taken down most of the buildings. One of the main buildings up at the front is still there. I's all mostly vacant land now, I think the sign is still there.
