True, but without show stops (like Kong) it's just a matter of how fast the boats can get through the station. They can pile up at the exit like Gran Fiesta.

There's no drops or vehicle choreography like the newest Pirates.

I would love them to leave FP+ off of these two rides to start with. See how the line behaves. Then, add FP+ to it and see what happens. You could take being in line if the line is consistently moving. I promise not to make this about FP+ as there a separate thread for that.

Extra magic hours after extended park hours point to this being insanely crowded. It will probably be really beneficial to hit softs vs try to get into this for the first few months.

And those EMH's from 11-1a are exclusive to Pandora... so it will be packed, at least the first months.

You can also stare at the tree of life. That's also literally your only other option.

Scientifically you'll remember a wait if you're moving and bored versus still and bored. You'll recall it being boring and long either way, but how your brain allocates time perception in memory is higher if you're shuffling along than if we left you in the waiting room of a doctor's office.

This ride is tracked. It's not a free floating ride like the usual boat rides at Disney. It's designed so only 1 boat is in a show scene at a time and effects are triggered throughout the ride rather than on a loop where you randomly catch action. This means you won't have boat stacking. You won't see the boat in front or behind you. This also means capacity isn't dictated by how fast a boat can be loaded but by spacing intervals and show scenes. All of this, plus the much smaller boats, means the River Journey will be one of the lowest capacity rides in that park.

On the same point re the ride system, I wonder if this'll feel substantially different to the actual boat rides (as in, clearly not actually a floating boat moved by currents). Aquatopia at DisneySea is brilliant and bizarre but I was surprised how much you can feel that you're essentially in a regular ride vehicle on a floor, which just happens to have water under it. Not so much of an issue there but I feel like it might be quite the immersion-breaker in a dark ride like this.

Jungle cruise and Jaws were pretty rigid and no room for drifting, but unless I'm mistaken, the ride system for Pirates Shanghai has a little slack so there's still some sensation of freedom. It's just pulled by two independent tethers, back and front, to control direction and speed, but not tightly connected like Jaws was to a track/gimble apparatus that prevents the feeling of floating. I could be wrong though.

That sounds promising, and would be much better. I only wondered after watching some of that b-roll footage and it seeming very controlled- I'll have to have another look.

But the boats don't stay a constant distance apart. They can stack at unload and wait. At some point it'll cascade stop - like Test Track - but several vehicles should be able to be stacked.

Being able to get the vehicle back in the event of a station failure is key to most any ride system. Even FJ vehicles can be squished together to get them all into the station or the first/last projection scenes - where they can be easily unloaded.

They're not like storybook boats in DLP which are in a chain and cannot speed up, slow down, or move independently.

And assuming it's as smart as if not smarter than Toy Story Mania the vehicles will begin to go slower through the scenes if the station begins to cascade.

I would hope that's one of the benefits of having the tethered boat system, as opposed to being at the mercy of water-flow.

Why is Disney seemingly incapable of building rides with high capacities any more? I refuse to believe there was no way the Imagineers couldn't have come up with a way for River Journey to eat 2,000 people (at minimum) an hour if they were forced to.

There's a lot of factors... space available, budget

I'm gonna go super cynical with this. High-capacity rides have high-capacity queues. Not only do they take up a lot of space, they keep a lot of people waiting in line instead of spending money throughout the park.

On a the flip side, a ride with poor capacity will keep its guests in its queue longer than a ride with high capacity. If I'm waiting in line for two hours for River Journey, I'm not spending money elsewhere in the park.

Why would someone buy something like that when they could easily make an app for free?
