I think the translator is a neat idea in theory. Not something I'll spend money on under any circumstances, but neat, and fits a kind of "edutainment" mindset.

We've always known that merchandise for Pandora was going to be a bit of a struggle. I'm not going to fault Disney for trying some weird things, and I'm certainly not going to compare their efforts to Universal's Harry Potter stuff, because that's not productive in any way. That topic has been beaten to death like the proverbial dead horse.

Dumb question. I'm not an AP holder but I will be here between May 9th and 14th. Any chance I would get to experience Pandora? I've never been lucky enough to enjoy softs

So the reason of why Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5 are still not being filmed is that James cameron had to find a way to put the translator cards into the story?

When I first heard of this I thought it was a free app like the one that are released to hype a game...but they actually want to sell this.

I wonder how many CMs actually learned Navi for this? I know they were encouraging CMs who wanted to transfer for the opening crew to learn a few phrases from the website, but of the dozen people I know who are on the opening crew, none of them did.

I really think they should have mouse ear hats with tails that have a magnetic end that links up and does interactive things. It could be their "wands" Not sure how they would make two going together work, if they even wanted them to. But they could have stations throughout the land they could make things light up or move or whatever. Could be in queues or anywhere really. Maybe if you link to your banshee you get a different experience. It's a merch thing that absolutely would sell.

I remember when they expanded and changed Flo's in Cars 2 so it'd match the layout in Carsland.

Seen both movies, and been to Carsland......Did not know this was even a thing!

I know you meant this in jest, but I think the real reason is technological. He was hanging his hat on high frame rates to keep the wow factor up but both Peter Jackson and Ang Lee got rather chilly receptions for their HFR efforts. Or maybe it's just ego, Hobbit was 48, Billy Lynn was 120. Avatar must be 240fps!

But can we talk with an actual Na'vi? They can build it. They have the technology.

The highlight of learning a foreign language is speaking with a native speaker. Talking with someone else who just happened to take it in high school passes time, but both people know there's an easier way to communicate.

If they had a "Turtle Talk with Zoe Saldana (Blue)," THEN the translators would a point and goal. Kids would want them just so they could talk to a "real" Na'vi.

Ollivander's is an entire attraction for the sole purpose of selling merch. Disney missing the boat on something like this, again, makes me wonder how much they think the GP cares.

This is all just a sad merch ploy to me, I hate what theme parks have become in this regard. Universal just had such a effortless setup with wands in Potter Lands.

To the point I'm surprised Disney doesn't claim this land of the park isn't breathable to humans so you have to buy the oxygen masks from the movie to enter it.......BAZINGA.

I found this particularly interesting regarding merch: "There will also be specific daytime and nighttime merchandise, such as flip flops, staffs, and spears that interact with their surroundings in the land in the evenings."

The merch options are amazing.

Depending on what they look like (read: how cute they are), I could see the banshee plush going over quite well with kids.
