Back then, they also thought we'd have hoverboards by about now

It's not that it can't be done. It can. It's not just feasible to make a large, realistic, moving figure that operates 12 hours a day, 365 days a year. From a maintenance standpoint it's not sustainable due to the amount of stress felt by the components.

Not to mention the building for Kongfrontation was (is) huge...it would not fit inside the Disaster showbuilding and I'm guessing they don't want to tear the existing infrastructure down. And even if they did start over from scratch, the HE has that space landlocked--it would be hard to fit two massive AA's (unless they're right next to each other in one room) in that area.

Yeah as much as it seems unlikely, I agree. I will be very disappointed if this is just a re-hash of Kong 360--that's cool for a tram tour, but not a standalone attraction. I guess we'll have to keep my expectations low just in case.

What about 1 really big AA in the "pre-show"?

That could be cool, but if it leads up to just another Kong 360 (which I'm sure is what they're going for) then, while better than nothing, is just not good enough to do Kongfrontation justice.

Retheme San Francisco into the New York Area. Turn Disaster into Kongfrontation but with more thrills. Takeaway Beetlejuice and put in Wicked. Take away Twister also

I completely agree.

Look what they did 23 years ago with massive Kong animatronics...there's no reason we can't have at least one huge animatronic in the ride. The excuse that the Yeti is an example why they can't build it is BS. They built that thing with the thrust of a 747 jet engine...hanging off of a platform above a coaster...Kong would not need that much power nor would he need to be placed in such a dangerous position.

Kong 360 was decent...but not enough to replace Disaster/Earthquake IMO.

To tell you the truth, I would rather have Disaster upgraded/refurbished than have another giant tv come (Kong 360). I can sit at my house and watch tv all day. I can even watch in 3d if it want to, and to make it feel like a 3d ride all i have to do is jump up and down... If i were traveling here on vacation I wouldnt pay good money to go watch a big tv.

I would be absolutely cool with that. I liked your idea for the ride concept you posted earlier.

That moved like relative molasses.

Listen, I love animatronics, but AAs that big can't be both reliable and realistic.

I think you're confused about where you are Skip. Realistic expectations go in the Fantasyland Thread

LEAVE TWISTER ALONE! :fist: No, but really, it's such a small attraction in a small building. You aren't going to get anything huge when/if they replace it. Just let it be. Other than that, I agree with you completely.

I agree. Go big (literally) or go home. While Earthquake was a waste of time and Disaster did very little to improve that, I'm ok with anything replacing Disaster, but if you are going to build a quality Kong attraction, don't give me a screen. I think Universal currently has the money, with loads more on the way, to create a big enough AA on the scale of the original attraction and make it more realistically.

Thats such a depressing way to look at it...but it is true. Also, not only is Disaster physical, but its also one of the last rides to use actual fire!

King Kong is awesome, but lets face it, had it not been for Kongfrontation, the property wouldnt be that sought after and hyped. The RIDE is what made King Kong. It was the elaborate sets, details, physical effects, and of course the huge AA's. Watching King Kong on a TV just seems like a waste of the property and hype.

Hopefully, however, our predicitions that itll be similar to Kong 360 are way off

Really? not enough to replace Disaster? Disaster is the only ride in all of Universal Orlando that I don't like. Just to walk into a room and see a giant AA King Kong would satisfy me more than that ride ever has.

All I know is Universal decided not to build Optimus and Megatron AAs for Transformers because they were not confident they'd be able to keep them running.

That was also a very different financial/ownership scenario. The attraction was developed with the conditions of having to be wedged into a specific part of Universal Studios Hollywood and paid for entirely by GE.

If it has 1 AA then it's fine...but if the just a longer Kong 360 forget it. Disaster at least has physical sets and some cool effects that happen...falling roads, exploding trucks, water, runaway sub trains...Kong 360 did t really make me feel like I was there...it was just an impressive movie. I want real now and then...the park has more than enough screen based attractions: Despicable me, Shrek, Terminator, Transformers, Simpsons...most likely Gringotts and Hogwarts Express too...
