Once they remove The Great Movie Ride there isn't going to be much MGM left there.

How many acres is Avatar? I thought I once read it was 8 acres, but that seems awfully small. Hopefully it's larger than that.

I would think it is closer to 16-20. Perhaps someone is motivated to do a google acreage thing on maps. I am not so motivated.

Thanks. I always thought, though, with all the available land in AK, that this should be a huge land. That's not really a ton of space, especially with all the land those mountains take up. Diagon/Gringotts/London/Hogwarts Express take up as much, if not a bit more, of that acreage, and Universal had to squeeze it in an available space. And Hogsmeade is way larger than that.

When the park opened it had so much from Paramount, Warners, Fox and MGM me and my friends jokingly referred to it as the Disney-EBU Studios (everybody but Universal)

I tend to agree on the awkward use of the size seeing it more complete. The design of the land really does not give much easy potential for expansion.

The largest plot that looks like it might be available for future actually come around to the backside of the river ride house where the facade ends....

Regardless though its still looking awesome.

So, Avatar looks to be roughly the same size as Blizzard beach (minus Blizzard Beach parking lots)?

Blizzard Beach is 30 plus acres, not counting it's parking lots.

That's not a completely accurate account as you've included many backstage areas, including parking lots for management. If we are looking at strictly guest use area, it will be around 12 acres.

Talking to one of my friends at Disney the other day I was told that the ride systems for both attractions are done and in testing phase now. That doesn't mean they are anywhere near opening because there is still a LOT of theme work to do inside and outside, but the ride systems are ready.
