Oh boy it's good(?) to be back. Now that speculating on Super Smash Bros. characters is over, speculating on HHN houses will do just as nicely! I'll try to be less annoying this year when it comes to spec, but here's some thoughts I was having regarding 31. They're as realistic as I could possibly make them. Not in any particular order or anything:
31 = Halloween Theme - This may be more wishlist-y but I think that A&D is usually good about their cute wordplay when it comes to theming and stuff. I don't think GA cares enough about the Pumpkin Lord to make him the host, but it would be cool. If not him, then a general rotting/spooky pumpkin theme is something I wouldn't be surprised by at all.
Maybe CryptTV? - I don't think really think the zone created the absolute hype that other Zone -> House properties had (KKFOS, TrT, etc), so I'm not totally sure if the decision makers are gonna want to bank on a house, but the possibility is definitely there. Would be cool to see each of the Creature Feature monsters in their respective habitats.
Chucky - Nothing is a lock, but I think this is the closest we have to one. The show is incredibly popular to the point where I've seen Chucky stans on Twitter. If it continues to stay like that then I think it'll feature somehow at 31. HHN Orlando has gotten incredible with their puppet work, so I think they could make a genuinely scary Chucky house. If COVID guidelines are still in effect it would be a great way to have some really close scares, too.
Universal Monsters - I've heard various rumors and whatnot about making the classic dudes stick around for a while longer, which I don't mind at all. A lot of people seem to LOVE the UM haunts a lot so the hype power for it is there. It and CryptTV may not be able to coexist due to similar creature-feature themes, but that also didn't stop them from doing 3 attractions with some form of "Zombie" or "Undead" in the title in 29, so who knows?
Stranger Things 4 - Definitely not impossible, and taking breaks between ongoing concurrent IPs has happened before. Could even see it complimenting a certain, arguably bigger at this point, other Netflix IP which I think has a chance of showing its face...
No 11th house or other massive operations changes - If HHN decides to make 31 another hugely IP-centered year with things like Chucky, ST4, and whatever else then I could possibly see them putting an 11th house to eat up crowds, especially if COVID has died down a bit (it won't, lol). But especially after 30's seemingly lackluster attendance when compared to 28/29, I don't think there'll be any plans to add an 11th house. And of course, since the Shrek space is just being turned into a flex/HHN space, I don't see the need for any new house locations. I also don't think we'll be getting another (huge) price hike, but it's Universal so IDFK.
and, finally... The one that I think is gonna get people annoyed at me...
I think Squid Game has a serious fighting chance this year - Do I want Squid Game? Not necessarily. I really only thought the couple first episodes were cool. Do I think it'll make a good house, per say? I'm very open when it comes to IPs, we've seen the team time and time again tackle properties that the community has called IMPOSSIBLE since day one, so I'm not gonna say a Squid Game house/scarezone would be destined to be bad, but I also wouldn't say I have full confidence in it being good. It seriously CAN'T be ignored how much of a breakout success the show was, and that it is juuuuust horror adjacent ENOUGH to where a Netflix exec may very well try to push it if the Netflix/HHN relationship is still there. If Squid Game is as much of a part of the cultural zeitgeist a year from today as it is right now, I think SOMETHING Squid Game related is more than likely to appear at HHN 31. Whether that be a house, scarezone, whatever interactive experience, etc. They were doing a Game of Thrones house at some point. It's not out of the realm of possibility at all for them to do Squid Game, whether we like it or not.
At the very least, as a house it'll be something similar to SAW except with the mask dudes instead of Pigs. And as a scarezone it'll be a similar repeat to S&D except with an IP that'll drive sales.
